Peer support.

of course the week i stopped, they started one at my clinic didnt they!!

Typical! :hissy: I'd ring them then Alice. One of the main things is being able to understand how new mum's feel and with 5 months under your belt you can definately empathsise with the ups and downs. :)

i was just having a gander around and looked on LLL and their prerequisite terms are well high!! you've got to have BF for 9months, not given any solids until 6m, something to do with bf for a year after weaning...i gave up then!!

i was thinking maybe someone like me might be good you know for young/teen mums. cos when i was 16 i sure as hell would have found it a bit daunting to talk to say a 30 year old, rather than a 20 year old about my boobies! plus, i think to a younger person, a fellow "youngester" talking to them about bf goes down better than someone older talking about it iykwim???

Yeah - definately.

LLL are pretty 'elite' I think....I've contacted a LLL contact ages ago and the never came back to me :(

whats LLL stand for?

i agree with the age thing very strong point x

lilbump, if you ask your HV there should be some BF groups in your area. there was loads round me, but i never bothered cos they were all in areas i didnt particularly want to go to. of course the week i stopped, they started one at my clinic didnt they!!

I've just rang them and the woman i spoke to well (not my Personal HV), she basically said no, told me to go to a mother and toddler coffee morning, there were sure to be at least 1 other BFing mama there :dohh:

La Leche League

I was only just 20 when I had my first and I got to 6 weeks and gave up :( I dont even know exaclty why...I think people got in my head about her sleeping better on formula....but I think if I'd have had someone closer to my age to talk to and who I 'believed' IYKWIM, I may have gone on for longer

i'll go have a look....watch this space lol!

Anyone would think i lived out in the sticks but i live near a city! It's so poorly served, there's nothing for me and my other baby friends to do. My HVs ran a 5 week baby group which is where we met and now there's nothing!

good luck Kat, sounds amazing, i'd love to do something like that.. x

maybe if you ring mat ward there might be someone there that can give you info? i know there's a dedicated BF midwife at my hospital who organises all the BF stuff. i'm gona pop her an email, when i can drag myself away from bnb!! i cant believe they told you to go to mothers and toddlers!! well out of order!!

I think I'm going to ask at clinic about this! Since people think I'm pushy about BF anyway. Might aswell push those that want to be pushed

Where abouts in Lancashire are you??

near Preston Lisa.

I've just emailed my closest group. They're the people who came around when i was in hospital to offer BFing support but they don't actually run anything in my city :dohh: I basically just asked if they knew how I could get on with this type of thing and then given time, training and everything we could start a group through them around here.

Have you any Sure Start Centres nearby hun? They often have facilities that you can use for this type of thing. You could try start a group off?? Maybe informally in your town at a BF friendly cafe or somewhere and take it from there? LLL (on that link) have local co-ordinators too - they might know of other groups not promoted by the NHS type bods??

There are sure start groups but there all pretty rough tbh barr 1, but the nice one has hardly anything running there!

The association of breastfeeding mothers do a full course that you can do for free if you help out on their helpline.

Well, this thread got busy while I was away! Thanks to all that are supporting me and thanks to all who have pointed others in the right direction!
I am doing mine through the local breastfeeding cafe, but it doesn't start until September time :-( Just as I'm going back to work! I am going back part time, so hoping I can work things round baby cafe and the course. How bad is that?!!!
