I've just started doing these as my midwife said it should help relieve the pain in pelvis (and stop me getting incontinence hopefully :) )

But I think I must be doing them wrong, because every time I try it seems to trigger off Braxton Hicks contractions. Does anyone else get this, and can you describe exactly how I should be doing them?

Thanks!

xx

I think I can identify with this - I have felt my tummy go tight sometimes and then I wonder if I'm doing too many or squeezing too tight! Someone else will hopefully be able to explain them better as I think they are one of the hardest things to explain...

I would describe it as pulling your internal muscles up and in, like you would if you were holding your pee. Or trying to pee slower?!

You can also try pulling them up in stages and then down in stages, or pulling in and holding for X amount of seconds and then releasing.

Perhaps you are pulling them in too tightly? Or could could try doing them on all fours? I have seen this on an exercise DVD I have.

that's happened to me once or twice while I was doing them...I'm not sure if it was my position or something...but as long as it's not painful, I don't see why that would be harmful? BH contractions also strengthen your muscles to help you get ready for birth!
