Isn't it funny how the people we meet as we go through life can put us off some names that would be lovely if you didn't associate them with that person in your head.

Here are some of mine:

Helen - I went to primary school with one and she was horrible
Emily - again primary school. She was unwashed!
Christopher/Chris - creepy guy at work
Karen - horrible woman at work
Patrick - I LOVE THIS NAME - DH's dad, who is an asshole
Anna - girl from secondary school - incredibly up herself, but this one's not too bad!
Alan - another asshole at work. This is actually a family name (brother, cousin, uncle all have it) but I don't really like the uncle (uncle by marriage) and I quite like the name...

I'm sure I have more, just haven't thought of them! What are some of yours?

Oh definitely I loved loved loved the name Zoe but everyone I meet has/had a dog with that name :/

Oh no that's terrible!! That's really the fault of people giving their animal human names! It's not as bad as some humans giving their children what should be dog's names though (Rex is for dogs only!).

I agree with people giving kids dog names, Tucker is one that especially sticks out.

I was sooooooo in love with the name Makenna for the longest time, but have found out that a chick who I HATED in highschool named her daughter that!!! DH is like who cares I DO!! Especially if she thinks I "stole" it from her or "copied" her.. Also my best friend's name is Justina so always planned on using Justice for a boy or Justis for a girl. Well then I meet DH and his ex wife's name JUSTINA!!! WTF! I totally know how you guys feel though, DH loves the name Natasha, but we had a dog named Natasha growing up. If I know of somebody with the name even if they're distant. I cross it off my list.. LOL. I won't even use a name in the top 100. I went to school with four other girls in my class with the same name so I aim for less popular and more unique names.. :)

I know two Tuckers. I had never thought of it or heard of it as a dogs name, I kinda thought it was cute.. :haha: but it's one of those names I would never use myself..

My husband likes Samantha but I knew a couple of Samantha's growing up that were chavs, can't use that name now!

Also every Jimmy I've ever known has been a stoner, and every Wayne I know personally is a drunk or in trouble with the police - so those names are out! Not that they were ever favourites of mine, but still!

This really made me laugh cos the cat i had when i was a little girl was called Zoe. :haha: I think it is a really pretty name thought. There was girl in hollyhoaks called like that and it didn't seem weird.

I know someone who call his son felix. Once again, my very old cat is called felix (Not very original but my sister and i were quite young). And then, our neighbour girlfriends that were young as well got a cat and name it felix as well so when our mums were calling the cat in the evening both used to turn up. :haha:

I am still TTC but i think that once i get pregnant, it might be a better idea if my OH and I are keeping the names for ourself as someone has always something to say.

Yeah I think keeping them to yourself is a good plan sometimes. My poor cousin is being very annoyed that her brOthers girlfriend who is due a few weeks before her has decided that if they have a girl they want to call her Caoimhe (pronounce queeva) and my cousin wants to call her baby Keeva if it's a girl!! She's praying the other girl has a boy! She's not our favourite person at the best of times!

I hate baby name stealers! LOL.. I didn't have anybody having a girl before me so we did share DD name. This next time I get preggers I don't even want to find out the sex, but DH thinks he needs to know. lol.

I have a couple of people I've met that have put me off a name but mainly celebs using it first or making it popular, then I worry that people think that you've copied the celebrity trend.

Tabitha - girl at school. Not great personal hygiene.
Camilla - pretty much one of my favourite girls names, went to school with one who was Millie for short, but what do you think of when you think of this name: Camilla Parker-Bowles
Viviana - girl at work, was very dizzy
Sienna - know someone called this who is nice, but completely barking mad (and not in the good mad way). Plus was worried people would associate with Sienna Miller.
Savannah - nearly choose this for DD, glad we didn't as now Peter and Autumn Phillips called their daughter it (Queen's great granddaughter). They're not really celebs, but still it gives a lot more publicity to this name in the UK where it wasn't very popular before.

Thing is, if you like the name you should stick with it :) I think you will forget everything about your old primary classmates when you call your baby the name. You will start to relate the name with the baby instead of the others :)

Working in a very challenging school in a socially deprived area, ive gone off so many names as they will always be in my mind "chav names" but if I really liked a name, Id go for it anyway. "Chav name" or not !;)

I have some names like people who name their boys/girls same names
I have my kids who all have friends with names like Spence, Tyler, Braydan and Jordan. I feel silly asking, well which one is it the boy or girl. They look at me like I am freak  but I am not LOL If they say they are going to Spencers house, I want to know who and no assume it is the boy/girl...lol why do people do that?
The girls are sweet, bit stuck up but sweet irregardless of being named that. Just happens in my area there is alot of it like that here. Kinda strange.
I do like Makenna, Hannah, Kaylee, and more but my kids and DH always say no for one reason or another. Hannah especially since 2 of my boys have crushes on girls with that name, YES TWO BOYS with same name girl friend :dohh: LOL when I was pregnant with Seth they said no. Cus of that lol :haha: ID o have people saying Why did you pick Seth, you should of went with Adam, Ryan or something else since I work with a dummy name Seth. Yes I COULD OF but if I name my son Seth is he a dummy to? Ugh, I still named him Seth anyways, cus it was something my DH wanted. I have people who wont call my sons their name cus they know of others who are same names and they dont like it, WTF...like geeze lol its just a name lol

have gotta say i do hate the name zoe, ive never come across a nice person called zoe lmao

i also do not like chav names, as horrible as it sounds all of DH's kids from a previous relationship have chavvy american (sorry if this offends) names like Tiffany, TJ and Jayden :dohh:

Granted one of my baby name choices is kindaa chavvy Rylee but i think its sweet lol

hubby likes Alfie for a boy and i like River for a girl

My MIL has a cat name ZOE. she lives downstairs of us. Cute cat and Sesame street/play with me sesame has a character name Zoe. :) lol

My niece has a very human name. One day we were out in the garden with her. The next door neighbours had visitors who had a dog who shares her name.

They were shouting at the dog, calling it by this human name and saying 'heel heel, come here now'.

Our niece looked up at us with a very bemused expression as if to say 'What I'm just sat on the grass. I'm not even doing anything!'

Luckily she soon learnt to ignore it.

I sympathise with the OP. My Mum has worked with children for many years and I have to screen all names with her in case they remind her of a particularly naughty child.
