Hi all, have you heard about the perineal massage to prevent tearing, i have not been told about this by my mw but my sister has just had her baby and she got a sheet about it of her mw, here is a link i think every pregnant woman should know about this one, remember though it starts at 34 wks-

Hi, Ive been doing this with Evening Primrose Oil for the last week or so (some for my cervix and some for the massage) I dunno if it will work but Im gonna try... My sister did it religiously with extra virgin olive oil (dunno if it makes a diff personally)... she got a 2nd degree tear so it didnt work for her but Im not giving up!!

thanks for the link! x

I did this with DS and didn't tear (he was 8lb8 born) would highly recommend it. I have done it again this time but not so religiously as it apparently doesn't do much after you've had one since you are stretched already

OOh looks good. For my two other births I was up on my knees on the bed, And very active before I got into that position. Both my labour were short and straight forward, the longest being 6 hours.
xxxxxx

My first born was 9lb 11.5oz and I didn't tear or anything! Really thing being upright helped!!

My hypnobirth practicioner recommended it, but we never seemed to get around to it. We managed to have our little one with no tearing even without the massage.

I would say that if you don't mind doing it - go for it, but you can get away without it.

I did it a bit with my first and i didn't tear, so it must be worth a go!

I attempted this tonight with olive oil....def a 2 person job but as I'm single I tried my best. I hardly applied much pressure and it killed...now I'm terrified of the 'ring of fire' as I know its gonna be a million times worse than me applying pressure with my thumbs! Ouch :-(

Never heard of it.. Just passed it along to some friends and the hubs.

I can barely reach down there to shave!

Yes i went to a birthing eductaion thing yesterday and its one of the things the MW reall recomended to do. She also said another thing that helps you to not tear is to not push too much as the heads bein born otherwise you strectch to quickly which is what causes the tear. She said MW will normalyl tell you when to push and when not to when you delivering the head.

I've heard of this, OH wants to start right away but I told him not for a few more weeks yet!! It was mentioned on 'Dawn Porter Has a Baby' a couple of years ago so I told my friend who was pregnant at the time and she said she'd been doing them whilst shopping in Tescos...!!! I think she thought I was talking about her PC muscles! :dohh:

In my diary for week 34 ish xx
