Periods and the mini pill

Hi Ladies, I just want some advice and or reassurance if possible.

When I had my post natal check up at 21 days pp I was put on the mini pill, Micronor as I am slightly over weight. I appreciate the reasons why I'm this pill though. However, despite telling the dr I didn't want to go on the mini pill I was told this was my only option of pill to go on. I don't want to use any other form of contraception other than the pill and condoms.

Since I starting this pill, I've had three periods already. I'm only 9 weeks pp. The first lasted only 3 days and was really light. My second one, I was incredibly heavy and have never bled like that before and my 3rd (i'm currently dealing with) is not too bad so far. I was told that I could expect to have irregular periods, but I feel like this is taking the blooming mick out of me. I also told the dr I didn't want to have irregular periods.

Now, the other problem is that when I was 8 weeks pregnant The hospital found out I had a fibroid. After giving birth to my dd the midwives at hospital told me that I would need to be refered back to hospital to see someone about my fibroid and see if it was reducing back down in size.

I'm so confused if this many periods so far is due to this mini pill and or this flipping fibroid. The dr I saw who prescribed me this pill said it was my only choice of pill to take. However, when I read through the instructions is said not to take if you had a fibroid. I then had to phone my dr's back and request for a dr to phone me back once they had finished seeing patients to find out if it was actually safe for me to take. The dr said she'd never heard of this before and "decided" after reading something that I could take it.

I'm going to make a dr's appointment tomorrow and see a different dr and get their opinion about this pill and also get a referral back to hospital. The dr I saw wanted me to wait at least 3-4 months before she would refer me.

I just wanted to see if anyone else was on this type of pill and was also experiencing irregular periods and had had this many in such a short period of time.

Regarding the fibroid situation, I know I'm slightly paranoid about it, as my aunty had some fibroids which resulted in her having to have a full hysterectomy. I'm scared that that's going to happen to me and I won't have the chance to have another baby so that my dd can have a brother or sister, but until I see someone at hospital I don't know what's going to happen. But this is a whole different situation and I'll deal with that side of things as when things happen.

aww hun. First off... *hugs*. Right, deffo get a second opinion. And make them refer you back and tell them your family history. I am also on the mini pill because im overweight, iv been on it for 6 weeks, 4 of those bleeding! So i would say your bleeding is due to the pill, however, im not a doctor. Thanks hun, that's what I thought too. My mum and OH have also told me to go back to the dr. My OH bless him, is really worried about it. I've also told him if it comes to it I won't go back on the pill.

Big hugs to you too.I really don't like the mini pill and am not happy having to take it and made that clear to the dr I saw at the time. grrrr, dr's at times. I so didn't miss having periods when I was pregnant. It's horrible having to deal with them again.

I came off the mini pill as I was bleeding more than not. As much as I hate condoms, they are far better for my sanity!!

yeah. Im gunna finish the 3packs and if my periods have sorted themselves out, carry on. Otherwise just use condoms. I dont like drs either! Lol xxx

I was on Cerazette. the only way for me in the end to stop the bleeding was to stop the pill. Hated it

Thanks Ladies, I made an appointment to see a dr and the earliest I could get into see one is next Monday. I also managed to get into see a different dr as well, so It'll be interesting to see what they have to say...

At the mo, I really feel like not being on the pill is the best option.

I was on the mini pill and i had no periods at all. I do think sometimes it takes a few months to settle down.

However, i would see a doctor due the fibroid just to get things checked out.

I'm on cerazette and have only had one period since I started taking them (6 months ago). I think it takes a while for them to settle but it's always worth checking with your GP.

i started taking cerazette 2 weeks ago and havent stopped bleeding since so im going back to the clinic tomoro to see what they can do for me. never had bleeding like it, its heavier than the bleeding i had after birth and im having to use maternity pads!

Well, I saw the dr yesterday and he thinks that my body is still adjusting to the pill and that hopefully things will settle down and my periods will become more regular over the next three months, but if they don't I have to go back.

I also managed to get the dr to get me referred to the hospital so I can have a check up regarding my fibroid, the downside is there is a waiting list of 2 months. Eeek. The dr, doesn't seem to think that my being irregular is due to the fibroid, but it's one of those we'll have to wait and see what happens or what the dr's at hospital say when I finally get a check up.

When my OH got home from work I started to tell him what the dr had said and he had a major rant at me about how they're not taking my fibroid seriously and that I'm not being aggressive enough and wouldn't let me finish what I was saying. In the end I gave up trying to speak. Men

I've also been told to continue taking the pill, so we'll see what happens, but I've only been prescribed a further 3 months worth of pills. In that time I'm on a new mission to loose some weight so I can go back on the combined pill instead of the mini pill. Just need to get some more batteries now for the wii so I can start on Wii fitness.
