Who has or is planning to do the harmony or similar testing?
I actually did harmony today. I read on a website you need to be at least 10 weeks though. I'm measuring 9+5, but according to lmp I'm 10+3. Maybe thats why doctor went ahead and ordered....hope the results are accurate, considering I'm about 2 days shy of measuring 10 weeks. I'm more so hyped about learning the sex. I know my maternal specialist is going to be testing alot as well for abnormalities.

Best of luck to you!
I'm not having the tests - at least not yet. I've booked an NT scan+blood test for next week (week 13) and if those put us in the high risk category, we may decide to investigate further by doing the genetic testing. I know for sure we won't be doing CVS or amnio due to the risk for miscarriage, but on the other hand we won't be aborting either if there's a problem, so not sure what we'll decide (if there is a need to decide). Right now I'm just hoping for a low risk NT assessment/blood tests. Re the timing for genetic testing, I thought I had read that you could have them as early as 9 weeks, but I may be wrong.
Good luck!

Edit: P.S. If I was going to have the genetic tests, my OB had actually recommended the Panorama test. Other than being developed by different companies, I'm not sure if there's any other difference among the different genetic tests on the market.

I just did the NT Scan and blood test today. I have to go back in a month for the follow up blood test.

I just got my InformaSeq results back yesterday.

I'm so confused about this test. I told my dr I wanted it and she said I had it with my 1st baby? I told them I wanted it because I was told it can determine the gender and she said they said they didn't know that, but she was going to look into it? How did she not know about it? Doesn't it show up in the results? Or do they have to specifically ask for the gender test. This must be a new thing? Can someone please clear this up for me? Thanks

I did the harmony test the day I hit 10w. One doctor said it is accurate at 10 weeks, but the other said it is more accurate at 11weeks. She said sometimes if there isn't enough DNA by 10w they have to re-do the test which requires a 2nd blood draw, and a longer wait.

Mine worked fine at 10w. They said it would take 2 weeks to get the results, but my results came back after 10 days.

I was surprised it only tested for 3 trisomies, but I didn't really care about that part of the report anyway (there was absolutely no way we were going to terminate regardless of whatever any test results showed).

I was so excited to get the gender results! I have a lot of friends/family having babies this year, and I was nervous that one of them would choose the same name that I picked out, so as soon as we found out the gender we revealed the name to call dibs on it :winkwink: I wanted to wait until baby was born to reveal the name, but with so many other mommies due before and after me, I wanted to lay claim to the name now :)

Can I ask how much this test costs? I asked my doctor about it yesterday and was told it was $800 here in Canada...does that seem right?

This is primarily a test that determines possibilities for chromosomal abnormalities of the baby and not a gender test. They do tell you the gender alongside the rest of the results, yes. Strange that your doctor didn't know that. However, if your only goal for having the test is to know the gender and not to investigate any possible chromosomal problems, my suggestion would be to not have it done. You never know what these tests may come up with, and if they come up with any potential problems, it may make you very stressed or upset, let alone prompt you to have invasive procedures like amnio to get a definitive diagnosis. Unless of course you are prepared to know either way. I think your doctor is talking about a different type of test - the one that tests genetic conditions of the mother, like whether she is a cystic fibrosis carrier, a sickle cell anemia carrier etc. If you had this the first time around, you don't need to do them again, as these test YOUR genes, which aren't going to change. These also don't tell you anything about the gender, since they test the mother, not the baby. The Harmony, Panorama etc. tests are specifically for the baby, and as you know, each pregnancy is different. So if you were to have this test done, you would need one for each new pregnancy. I think it's just a misunderstanding between you and your doctor. You can explain to her that it's the Harmony or Panorama test you wanted (the one that tests the baby, not the mother). Hope this clears things up for you.

it appears some docs dont have full info about it......my fetal specialist told me is was a $900 test and most insurances dont cover, it can be done as early as 9, but best around 13

then my ob offered it to me yesterday, didn't mention any costs. I just called them because the harmony website says you have to be 10 weeks. I'm measuring 9+5, according to lmp I'm 10+3, yet my doctor chart says I'm 10+1.......Im so confused. Just want to be sure the results are accurate.

In the US it is sometimes covered by insurance, depending on your plan. When insurance covers it, the out of pocket cost to the patient is either zero or quite low. If you were to have them done privately, they could cost a couple thousand $$$
However, doing some investigation (since my insurance doesn't cover them if there is no reason to suspect an abnormality, e.g. abnormal NT scan results), I found that the company that has launched the Panorama test offers a significant 'early payment' discount, since their test is new on the market and they're trying to get it established. So they're eating up a lot of the cost for private patients. They supposedly still send you the full bill for like $2,000 or however much, but if you call them and ask for the discount, if you're willing/able to pay in full over the phone right there and then, I think they drop the price to a whopping $145, which makes it affordable. At least this was the case a year or two ago, according to some Internet forums I read. Not sure if it's still the case now, but that would be nice. But yes, the full price is quite extortionate - in the US it's in the $2,000 range I think.

I guess since I'm in second tri now it would probably make more sense for me to book a private scan to get gender results instead, or wait 6 long weeks until my anatomy scan - I'm just so impatient!

You can get a gender scan from 14-15 weeks anyway.

I'm having the Harmony in the UK, costs £400 which includes a scan at 10 weeks (when they draw the blood) and at 12 weeks they do the NT test and give you the results. CV testing is included if the results are positive.

I had the Harmony with my last pregnancy as we missed the window for doing the NT test and we weren't happy with the accuracy of the quadruple test.

My test was a little over $900 and was billable to my insurance. It's normally only covered if you are over 35 or have a history or family history. I had none of this but it's covered in my plan.

Babifever, when I called to schedule it, they checked my weeks and based it off of that so they shouldn't even let you get it if it's too soon to be accurate. There's a window that they like to perform the test.

The discount Christi mentioned on the panorama test ended recently (it was called their "peace of mind" program). They just stopped offering that within the past month or so. Now the panorama test is full price, however other companies such as harmony are offering comparable tests at lower rates (or $0 depending on your insurance) for an intro period while they are trying to establish their own name.

Paying out of pocket for the test from labcorp costs around $2000.

My harmony test was fully covered by insurance. I am under 35 (but over 30) with no family history of any trisomies.

Thanks for the update. Good to know! I was wondering if the Panorama discount was still in effect, as the latest info I had was from around a year ago.

The way I see it, it's too darn bad if they want private patients to pay out of pocket for the full price. Women who have the test covered by insurance will opt to have it if they want, while women whose insurance doesn't cover it (by my understanding, this is the case with many, if not most, insurance plans) will most likely opt out due to the cost, unless they are wealthy enough. Very few couples/families have $2K to spare in the drop of a hat, even if it's for something as precious as their unborn baby, especially when there are other options like NT screens, amnio etc. that are more commonly covered by insurance. So the challenge for these companies will be to convince more insurance providers to cover it as part of their plans, if they want to stay afloat in the long run.

Interesting to know that Harmony offers incentives and lower prices though. I thought Harmony was the established one, while Panorama was trying to get in the market, hence offering the significant discount. Not that I know anyway, and I've opted out for now, since I'll be doing the NT screen instead :winkwink:
