Hello Ladies -

Got hubbies SA results back yesterday and he has 6% motility with on 3% progressive. I am so scared that we will not be able to conceive naturally. We have to make an appt with a FS to see if this SA was correct, and then see where to go from here.

Is there anyone in the same situation? If so, please let me know what I can expect from here. Treatment? IUI/IVF? Any help would be much appreciated.

Kae

Didn't want to read and run sweetie! Sorry to hear of the SA results. Was this his first SA? It is suggested to have at least 3 SA's done (spread out over a few months of course) and then make a comparison. Could have just been an off day for him!

I know some women on here wouldn't agree, but stress CAN play a factor. But, so can other things like not enough or too much exercise, too much heat in that area (aka sitting for long periods), diet, etc.

Does he take a men's multivitamin? Zinc, manganese, and magnesium are the main ones for helping with sperm (of course, the other vitamins too).

Hope the next SA is better!

I agree conception vits are good, my hubby's SA improved 2nd time after taking these. We have similar issues with low motility and have been recommended IUI and ivf. We are still trying naturally because it only takes one good un!

So don't worry it can still happen xx

hi, my DH didnt have a good 1st result, havent got numbers but was just told it wasnt good and to re test in 3 months, in that 3 months hes taken every day:
vit c -1000mg
vit e - 400iu (good for motility especially)
omega 3 - 1000mg
selenium - 200ug
zinc - 25mg
co enzyme q10 -120mg
L Carnitine - 500mg
vit b - 50mg of all the b vits including folic acid

I chose all these after lots of research on internet, whether it works or not only time will tell, but it makes me feel more hopeful that were doing all we can and ive read lots of success stories on here of men increasing their sperm counts after taking certain vitamins
Good luck!!

My DH has been diagnosed with Low sperm count. First test was last year with 10 million and 5% motility.

Keeps going downwards and for our ICSI cycle this month it had gone down to less than 1 million but motility had increased to 20%.

He's going to get it investigated further with our doctor in October to see what they can do for us.

The only thing different he did was take vitamin C with zinc. He's going to start taking pregnacare for men (to help with conceiving)

:hi:

I also have an issue with low motility and count..and we're nearing on 2 years TTC. It's not impossible to get pregnant naturally but it's going to take a lot longer than an average couple. From what I understand from my gyno the last options are IVF/ICSI. IUI may work but it's really more for couples with just a low count. We won't be able to fund IVF till 2014, so natural it is until then.

Make sure he's not drinking alcohol, cutdown caffeine intake, no smoking/chewing tobacco, abstaining hot bath/hot tubs, no laptops on his lap, managing his stress, and on a healthy diet. That's about all you can do.

Is your gyno/FS going to refer him to a urologist? That's the next step for male infertility. That's what we're currently waiting on, but the military is so slow .

Good luck my dear! Hope you can move forward in your journey!

You ladies are the best!! Thank you so much for all the love and support!

Winter - Yes, it was his first. We are definitely going to get a couple more, I am just worried that with number this low, there isnt a chance for the next ones to come back normal.

trying4babies - Please let me know if you do the ICSi. I have read a lot about it, and if my hubby's motility really is low, that is going to be what the Dr. recomends. I would love to hear your journey!

Hiya
I've just done my first ICSI cycle & it ended in a BFN this week. I knew by day 13 as all the symptoms had gone completely. But I wouldn't say never try it. It was only my first time & I was extremely positive. Relaxed and did nothing for 2 whole weeks & had cravings and lots of early pregnancy symptoms. I've got my review on October 12th to have a chat about why it didn't happen and to see when we can start our next cycle but I would defo have to say I sailed through all the meds including the needles and blood tests, the scans & I'd say the only time that put me off it was the egg retrieval... was just very sore for a couple of days but nothing you cannot live with. :winkwink:

I'm happy I done it even tho it didn't work 1st time but me & the DH said we will never give up. We just really need to be very positive and relax as much as possible.

I never thought i'd have to see the PT saying BFN but after some stories i've read I will gain so much courage to get through it all..

Tell me you story :winkwink: great to have a new buddy to share stories with

Hi Hun,

So sorry to hear about the BFN:hugs:... I will keep you in my prayers!! I must say that it is refreshing to see what a positive attitude you have. I know how hard it is, and sometimes it is hard just to keep your head up. But, I know that you will get your little angel!! Please keep me posted on your next visit. I would love to hear how your doing.

As for me... DH and I have been ttc for 9 months now. His 1st SA came back with really low motility. 6%:nope: We have yet to get a second one done yet. I think we are going to wait another week or 2. That, and find another Dr. since the last one was no help. I am really hoping that it comes back better, but with only 6% I dont feel to great about it. I dont want to get ahead of myself on anything, and I know that we need to see a FS before we make any decisions, but I just have a feeling that we are going to have to go the IVF/ICSI route. I am fine if that is the case, it is just not knowing that really drives me crazy!! I just want a little one so badly, and we will do whatever we have to, to get there.

Good luck at your next appt. Hopefully they can pinpoint what happened this go and make the next one stick!!:dust:

Talk to you soon!

My DH has the same problem but after taking vitamins his motility has changed. did u know that each test over the course of a year can change for the better or get worse. Every 3 months the sperm changes so if you say had binged eating or binged drink say 3 months to the day you can probably imagine that it didn't help the sperm. I learned that along the way - a little tip :winkwink:

Did you find out how many million because as far as I know with the hospital i'm with we didn't qualify for IVF because his sperm count was under 10 million and anything over 20 million is considered an IVF patient first. Whereas with ICSI the male sperm is below a certain amount and a certain amount of motility and morphology. Its complicated but ya'l get the hang of all the medical terms in no time. I googled everything and researched it all :winkwink:

Is your OH taking vitamins because my DH only started taking them not to long ago and his motility had increased so its really worth thinkin about telling him to take some vitamins Zinc is so important. There's lots of multivitamins. Google the pregnacare range for men and women TCC... it'll really help and i've also another tip. Pre-Seed fertility aid. We are going to try it until our next cycle. :winkwink::winkwink:

His count was fine. 97Mill, I think. His morphology was about 15% which I heard is about normal. The biggest thing was really his motility.

He has been taking a mens multi vitamin for a while, but I want to switch it to something that is more focused on ttc... Thinking back 3 months, it was a pretty busy time for us. It was also my DH's birthday, so that means lots of yummy food and drinks. Hopefully that had something to do with it.

I will def let you know what happens on our next SA.- Have a fab weekend!!:happydance:

97 million is extremely brilliant!! You won't need to worry. I think the vitamins here will help an awful lot for you both https://www.vitabiotics.com/addtocart.aspx?ID=242
and try the pre-seed stuff too. It really just might do the trick for you...

Chat soon hunni :winkwink: and enjoy the DH birthday have a brill time x

i have really bad pcos so after ttc for a long time got referred to fertility specialist, part of the process to get referred for OH having his tests...the results came back terrible, he has less than 5% swimming forwards, they said a normal amount is 40%..i remember being so upset as it felt like a double struggle now, i remember the doctor saying not to worry and that it only takes one swimmer to fall pregnant and even out of 5% there are still millions in there. Weird thing is we fell pregnant naturally a few months later.
We ttc for a long time so i know how it feels and the struggle every month and heartache! but clearly it can happen and to be honest i was told my pcos was so bad i wouldnt fall on naturally, so his rubbish 5% cant have been that rubbish after all.
like they say it only take one

Its great hearing from someone who's fallen pg naturally.. Delighted for you's .. I had PCOS but when I had my scans they were gone.. Happy with that tho :winkwink::flower::flower:

Our first SA came back 0% swimming forwards, 2% non progressive & 98% immotile. We left it 10 weeks to do a second test & in that time hubby stopped drinking alcohol & caffiene, took a conception vitamin, a super strong vitamin c tablet, fish oil tablet, b100 & zinc each day & reduced the amount of non-organic food that he ate. Now we have 12% slow & sluggish, 9% non- progressive & 79% immotile. We are over the moon. Still waiting for our referral appt for ICSI & i'm hoping we'll continue to see an increase to the point that we fall naturally! Good luck to you!

Thank you for the link. I am definitely going to get him started on a new set of vitamins. Hopefully that mixed with the healthy lifestyle and cut back on alcohol will make a world of difference.

Are you scheduled for another ICSI? I would love to be kept up to date on it!!

It's stories like yours that really give me faith! Did the Dr. ever say what he thought about it?

I am really hoping that I will have a similar story, it is just hard when all the results say otherwise.

Thanks again for the help. I know it will be harder, and I will def hand in there.

Hope the vitamins make a difference. My DH is starting his on monday. We went out saturday night as we had not drank a drop in months so needed to get our minds off everything. Had a brill time so was well worth it. Now back to reality to stay healthy etc. :flower:

I have a review with the hospital on Oct 12th so going to see when we can go for another ICSI cycle. I'm looking forward to it but I'll always wish for it to happen naturally. :winkwink::winkwink:

well despite me having pcos and oh having his issues the doctors were still very positive in general saying it does only take one sperm and despite only having less than 5% swimming thats still millions. Doctors never really were suprised when it happened naturally! I know its so frustrating when people say this but that month we had not really ttc, we had gone on holiday and forgotten a bit about ttc as we were seeing the fertility specialist a few weeks later so i felt optimistic just going to see someone who could discuss our options and it was that month we didnt try that we conveived. Im not saying that was the cause! In a way its unexplained - suppose thats the most annoying thing about ttc. Dont give up faith though - i nearly did after years of ttc, but it can happen. might just take a long time :)
