i just read that for low sperm motility IUI is a bad idea...

now my husband has low sperm motility and i just had my first unsuccessful IUI... in fact today in my first day of AF so u can imagine the pain... what should i do... ? ICSI is way too expensive for me... i cant afford it :(

Hi hun,

So sorry your af got you :hugs:

I dont think i will be much help as im new to all this IUI and ICSI but i have just read the article and one part of it made me think.... this guy says ICSI is more or less guarenteed to help women get pregnant regardless of of the mans sperm quality?! Surely if that was the case IUI would be bypassed and ICSI would be the first step.

If i were you i would continue with the IUI

Sorry i havent been much help to you, good luck for this next month, keeping my fingers crossed for you hun

:dust:

Sorry about AF. How low is DH's motility? I've definitely read of women getting pregnant with this diagnosis, so don't give up hope.

That's not bad motility, they are just a bit slow. IUI mean that they will have less travelling to do, so good for your situation. I think iui is less successful when motility is bad because there are very sperm swimming all together.

Are you doing stimulated iui? My FS told us that evidence is that iui unmedicated didn't bear better results than natural conception, but stimulated did. Of course they all tell you something different, but I think if I went the iui route, I would go with a medicated cycle.

yeah its stimulated.... just that my first iui failed so it just made me all nervous about everything....

thanks a million :))

Sperm quality is important for IUI but as FB said, your results do not seem too bad. The sperm washing that they do in the IUI would help to make sure that only the best were used also.

You could try some vitamins like zinc and selenium to try and improve the quality but there is definitely hope!

I have also just got over my first failed IUI so I understand the disappointment you are feeling but there are plenty of women who succeed on the second, third, fourth tries etc. They say there is a 10 to 15% chance of success per cycle so in theory the more goes you have, the better your chances! Good luck and hugs for you.

Thanksssssssss :hugs: u guys have made my day ... :hugs:

My DBF has multiple sperm issues and he's taking a bunch of supplements right now. Amino acids [l-carnitine, l-arginine, l-tyrosine], zinc, selenium, vitamin C, E, grapeseed extract... I don't know if it will help but I figure it can't hurt, right? I agree with the PPs- I would go with the IUI a little longer. Like I said, we have low motility- lower than your DHs and my RE said we were perfect candidates for medicated IUI. The article says that the problem with IUI for low motility has to do with the fact that a lot of times they are not good, functional sperm. Well, that is not always the case with low motility- they're just saying there's a correlation. Good luck hun!

I just came back after my meeting with my RE.. she told us that my DH's sperm in not that bad.. as u all also told me.. since we are travelling this month.. we cant continue with second IUI but yes.. i am going to have Clomid and she has prescribed some multivitamins for DH.. hopefully it will help him..... i am relived and happy ... but tell u honestly .. we are far stronger than our male partners.. my DH was all quiet on his way back... b/c told him that the my ovulation and response to clomid is perfect .. :( .. just the look on his face made me so sad... we are all ready to hear abt our defects but men are just not... I hope i stay positive in our journey .. and that we have a BFP soon.. :)
