Hi everyone. I had my D&C last wednesday and I was doing OK on thursday and friday and the bleeding had completely stopped. Then over the weekend I have experienced quite severe stomach pains and cramps - to the point that I cannot stand up or walk. On Sunday night I went to the out of hours GP service and they have now prescribed me a course of antibiotics and I am taking ibuprofen, paracetamol and codeine every 4 hours (yes I am rattling inside!). They think it might be an infection or I might have 'products of conception' left inside after the D&C - I have to go in for another scan to check :-(
Has anyone had any similar experiences after their D&C or did you feel and get better very quickly? Are my symptons unusual or am I just in post-operation recovery and over-reacting? Many thanks everyone, and sorry for your own losses.

Hi, I'm sorry for your loss. I had an ERPC in September and have had good days and bad days since. It took about a week and a half for the really painful cramping to stop and the bleeding was on and off for that time as well. I found that when I was doing a little bit more each day the bleeding increased. My period came 6 weeks later and was really painful but I think it was just my body's way of having a good clearout as my next one was back to normal. I too had anti-b's which probably cleared up any infection as by the time I had a scan (I had to fight for one) there was nothing to see.

Hope you get well soon, you'll get there. You're very sensitive to your body and every little niggle will feel painful at the moment. xx

I am not as far past my d&c as you are and don't have a whole lot to offer, but my doctor did tell me that during recovery I should slowly start to feel better and if I had a temp over 100.4, or if the pain was getting worse instead of better, then to call immediately. He said that sometimes the "product of conception" are left inside and they may have to go back in and take them out if they don't come out on their own after the d&c.
My doctor sent me home from the hospital with pain pills and antibiotics.
Hang in there, I am sorry you are in so much pain =( I am sorry you have to go in for another scan, but I am glad you are getting it looked at! Hang in there!

The EPAU here is brilliant. The Gynae consultant phoned me with lots of advice and will keep calling me this week to monitor how I feel. I was worried that the huge amount of painkillers I am taking is masking some real damage but he said that as time continues the continuous pain I am feeling which is being reduced by painkillers will lessen and actually I will feel less of a need to take them every 4 hours. The antibiotics are also working. Thanks for all your responses.

So sorry you've had such a scare on top of your loss. I'm very glad to hear you are getting good medical care.
For me, on my first miscarriage, I had a bit of placenta left after the D&C and didn't feel quite right until I passed it a month later. My symptoms were different from yours though.
I hope you heal well and quickly and I'll keep you in my thoughts.
