Hi there,

Hope you ladies are all well!

I can't believe I've been on B&B for over a year and only just found the postnatal health section - doh!!

I've got my 8wk (think it used to be 6wk?) check up next week. What can I expect? The letter they sent out focussed on contraception in a big way (loads of leaflets etc) which I felt was a bit rude really!! Sort of like "you've had your baby, now don't do it again!". Anyhoo, what will the appointment cover? Will they check me 'down there'?

Thanks, Ika xxx

My surgery dont do them anymore which I find very odd as I had a c/s so would like to know all is ok! I am gonna make an appointment though as I want checking out wether they like it or not!

From what I can remember with DS (8yr ago) they checked abdomen, how I was feeling, did smear (but I was due 1 anyway) and discussed contraception. There was probably more but I cant think of anything else HTH x

I think depending on whether or not you had your baby vaginally or by c/s it differs a bit. I know here in the U.S If you have the baby vaginally they DO do internal exams to make sure everything is healed in there. They check that your cervix and uterus are both back to normal size and that everything that is supposed to be out, is. Also, if you had to have an episiotomy they check that it is healing correctly and everything is completely closed up and there are no infections.

They do really focus on birth control at that appointment so that you won't immediately get pregnant with another child if that isn't your plan.(since some people do get back to DTD rather early and expect not to get pregnant and BOOM it happens and they're confused as to why lol..)

The only reason they sent you leaflets is probably so that you can make an informed decision on the choices of contraception that they offer. They want you to know what your options are so that when you go in you can ask questions and voice concerns if you have them.
