Post partum smear test and still breastfeeding

Hi ladies,

I was at the docs a couple of days ago and discovered that the smear test that I had had a year ago in February had come back inconclusive and that I would have been recalled but then I fell pregnant. This has panicked me now as I've always been good about going for smear tests and I'm annoyed that I wasn't notified even of the recall. So I've booked myself in for next week to have it done but my SIL has made me wonder now if I can have it done. I'm 6 months pp but am still breastfeeding. She said that she didn't think I could have it done as I'm still breastfeeding because the hormones can produce an abormal result.

Does anyone know what the situation is? Thanks

Its fine to have a smear while breastfeeding. I am struggling to think of one I had while not BF, I believe they now advise waiting a minimum of 12 weeks instead of 6, after birth but this is not specific to BF mums xx
