Looking some advice on potty training please!

DD is 2 1/4 and we've been potty training for 4 days. She seems to be catching on to it really well - a few accidents, but even managed to take herself to the potty and use it successfully once today as I was putting her brother to bed upstairs. I've deliberately avoided leaving the house as much as possible to give her a good chance at it.

But obviously I'm going to have to go out again with her, including going out for dinner for granda's birthday an hour's drive away on Sunday.

I'm wondering about whether to keep her in her cotton pants in the car and/or at the restaurant and risk an accident, or to use a pull up? I used a pull-up when I had to go to the doctor's yesterday and the wee tinker used the opportunity to do her business when she didn't have to do them in the potty - I recognised her poo face but she denied it even though it was very obvious! :haha: whereas the pants seem to motivate her to use the potty better as she doesn't want to dirty them the same.

What did/would you do for car journeys and social situations in the early days?

My toddler was potty trained - few months ago at 2 1/2. I bring a fold up travel potty seat when we go out or travel and she does pretty well on the public toilets. Would you think of bringing a seat with you for her to use at the restaurant? I never did the pull up thing because I'm sure she would just go in it as a diaper probably. Maybe others will recommend doing this, but I never use pull ups or anything.
I guess it maybe depends if she uses a kiddie potty or uses the actual toilet. My daughter just learned from the get go to use her seat on the big toilet, so going other places is not too big of a deal as I just have a little seat for her.
If yours uses a kiddie potty maybe have a look at the " potette plus" ( I think that's how it's spelled) it can be a seat for a big potty, or the side handles can fold down to make little " legs" for it to be a little stand alone kiddie potty. You just attach a bag to it and dispose of the bag after use. Maybe this would be good for when traveling, you could just pull over and let her go on this, or when at the restaurant.... Just a suggestion for you to take a look at.

Pulls are a waste of money, they feel like diapers, they look like diapers its just back tracking. Least that's my thought.

Take a potty with you and put it in the car, as her, or stop every little bit. When you get to the restaurant take her, than take her before food comes, and after again.

Thanks jules! Was just thinking about that too. Had intended just using a toilet seat insert with a step at home, but she's a small child and wasn't tall enough to climb up onto it herself, so I ended up having to start with a potty instead. But I've been using the insert upstairs and just lifting her up onto it and she's been doing fine with that too, so would probably just take the insert I reckon.

What you reckon about the car journey - chance the pants or use a pull-up?

Think I'm starting to realise that - she doesn't want to take it off when we do use one. :flower:

I use a 'piddle pad' for the car (my mum just uses a plastic bag!), he has never wet on it though. I prefer to take the chance rather than put pull ups on.
We also have the pottete thing, it's good

The 'piddle pad' is a great idea. I've never directly potty trained but have been involved in my nieces/nephews training. I personally would choose not to use pull-ups but LO is in daycare and they do ask that pull-ups are used at daycare in case of accidents (fair enough). He is a while off that yet though.

I put a diaper over the underwear when we go out. I use a cloth diaper though not a pull up. DS1 has been potty trained for a few months but he is afraid of public washrooms and I don't want him to pee in the car seat or while we're out for a walk in the cold. Usually he holds it until we get home, sometimes he pees in it but never #2.
