Help!! Harry is not interested in potty training at all!! He is very attached to his nappy and has never liked to be without one on! I have tried introducing the potty, he will sit on it but never does anything! I am starting to get concerned as he is now 2 yrs 7 months! His speech isn't great so i know that wont help but i really want him out of nappies, Lottie was potty trained and dry within a week at 2 yrs 5 months. Any advice? x

I've heard that boys can take a little longer - certainly my godson just wasn't up for it until he turned three. That was in April and he's now fully trained in the daytime.

You know your child best but I imagine it's sensible to leave it until he's definitely interested (within reason!) so that you have the best chances of success. You can lead up to it with loads of tricks (decorating the potty, reading potty books etc) in the meantime.

If you're worried at all, speak to your doc but I imagine they'll tell you there's no hurry at his age.

Good lucK!

Thank you! I'm not too concerned, its other people more than me but i don't want a battle with him. I tried pt my daughter and she wasn't interested, tried again 2 weeks later and she got it, i guess they know when they are ready x

Sam isn't interested AT ALL! I really am not fussed - if he gets to 3.5 and still no sign I will seek help. Fynn is potty training himself just now lol it's a breeze so I plan to wait for Sam to be interested too x

Ellis is 3yrs 4mths and we only started yesterday, he needs to be dry for Pre-School. He's shown interest innthe past, uses the potty occasionally and the loo before a bath as well as watching OH & I when we go. We talk about it so the seeds have been sown! Seems to bo going ok, the weathers helping so maybe use this as a no pressure chance to test the water. Good luck x

I left a potty lying round just before Ihsan turned 2. I explained what it was, and read fun stories (my own made up ones!) about using the potty. He would sit on it like a chair for weeks just messing around, then once I saw he was comfortable sitting on it I left his nappy off when we were home. A few times he would sit on it, then move to the side and pee on the floor but I never made a big deal. It was easy to get him to do poo's in the potty as he goes around the same time every day and would head behind the curtain to 'go!', so I would tell him to sit on the potty instead. Once he did his 1st poo in there, the rest was fairly easy. He is now fully toilet trained/potty trained he can go himself, pull his trousers up and down & flush/wash his hands & will ask to go when we are out. A few weeks ago he wouldn't go near a public toilet or use any of our families toilets.

I wouldn't mind if he was still in nappies, they all learn to do things in their own time & there's no point in worrying. They all get there :)

Sam is extremely reluctant to use the potty or toilet, he is 3 yrs 3 months. We tried a couple of months ago and he seemed to have got the hang of it and then suddenly flat refused and pleaded with me to put a nappy on him. I was really worrying about it, mainly because he starts nursery in September and also becuase everyone keeps asking why he's not potty trained yet! Nursery have said it's not a problem but I am a bit embarrassed about it. I wish I knew why he is so reluctant but am backing off at the moment because it is just making him more reluctant.
