My first post in 2nd tri. I slipped paying in 1st try cos most of the threads worried me :baby:

So here is my question. Who has a pram in the uk that allowed baby to lie in the cot beyond 6 months? I want baby to lie flat for a long as possible to help with back development but also cos I love prams. I had an emmaljunga last time which was great. Samuel was in the cot till ten months and only came out cos I was scared he would loan to far over the sides. it had a bank rest so he could sit up when I wanted him to.

Trouble with the emmal junta is the chassis is also big and our house and my car are small. It also didn't have swivel wheels which could make pushing and steering heavy.

Ideas anyone please?

Hmmmmmm honestly don't know any! My lb hated being in his and was in his pushchair seat at 5wks old which he loved! I'm now due with twins in the summer and steering away from carrycots cause I know we'll spend over a grand on a system with them, and hardly use um, then they'll outgrow the pushchair seats quickly cause most are pretty narrow so we'll have to buy a side by side after 12minths anyway. So we're going straight for side by side with extra support. But anyway that's my dilemma and choice :)

Maybe try going to somewhere like kiddicare where they have a huge selection of prams you can look at, compare, play with. Totally worth the trip!

I have a uppababy vista which I'll be using again. They are quite dear new, but there's loads on ebay now, so you could find yourself a bargain. The carrycot is good for overnight sleeping (apparently some aren't ventilated enough or something?) and the sides are quite high. It's also got d-rings at the sides so you could put baby in a harness and attach that to inside of the carrycot for when they're a bit bigger and sitting up. It doesn't let you adjust it to have them sit up though, and it's quite big when folded. I still love it because it's great to push (swivel wheels at the front can be locked for cobblestones and that) and the basket is massive. The toddler seat that comes with it is good from 6 months I think and also lays flat (feet up a bit, but I think that's alright as long as the back is straight and flat?), so even if you do decide to move on sooner it's still very back-friendly.

I thought the Bugaboo Cameleon one was pretty big when we looked at it, but I don't think it will allow them to sit up.

Honestly, I think it's better for them to be in the pushchair bit once they can sit up as they're more supported and that's probably why they only make carrycots to a certain size and don't allow them to sit up.

I'm getting a Cosatto Giggle which has a pretty decent carrycot, although I don't think it'd do for 6 months plus. I planned to adjust to the upright position before then. Is there a good reason not to that I don't know about?

I have a mamas and papas travel system, I can't remember the name as I've had it for a few years now but it's a '9 in 1' travel system and the cot is very big. Mine is very similar to the emmaljunga so you might find you have the same difficulties as before. I love it though, ds1 was in the pushchair seat for ages after coming out the pram it's so spacious.

Tbh I think keeping a baby flat post 6 months is not a good Idea. Most babies want to sit up and see things by then. Also remember you should be actively limiting the time baby is flat on his back to prevent flat head syndrome. Best to get one that can allow baby to sit up properly supported and lie back for naps.

I got the silver cross linear freeway for my first and will use it for my second! The back lifts up and the footrest can be dropped to create a seat for when Lo is bigger!

We have gone for the bugaboo buffalo the carrycot is huge on it lovely and spacious baby will easily stay in it till 6 months minimum probably a lot longer

I've got a quinny buzz and the carry cot with that is huge. Very plush and comfy looking but it doesn't sit up. Has two different upright seats for different ages and the chasis is so light and easy to use and folds down easily and quite small xx
