I had my booking in appointment today and got told I have quite a low bmi. This really shocked me. I don't weigh myself and I don't look underweight what so ever I have a flabby stomach so was shocked.

I'm 5'9 and weigh under 9 stone I think 8.13 or something. I always used to weigh 10stone 4 so I've lost a lot of weight and I don't know why. With my daughter I weighed about 10st 10 when I gave birth and lost a bit of weight afterwards. I have no idea why I'm losing weight?

I'm not particularly worried but just think it's odd I eat like I've always ate but I guess I'm always running after my toddler. Just hoping I'll put weight on this pregnancy so I can be healthy for the baby! X

I'm not sure exactly what 9 stone equals in pounds (that's what we use for our weight in the US) but I weigh 122 pounds and am about 5'9''. Not sure of my BMI but my gyno doctor did not mention anything about my weight. I think if you're eating healthy and taking care of yourself than I wouldn't stress too much! I've always been thin and had a difficult time putting on weight.

Thanks for the reply :) I think I weighed around 124lbs with clothes on so around the same as you. I'm not too concerned just have no idea why I'm losing weight x

I'm 5'8 and weighed 123lbs before getting pregnant. My weight gain was poor! I gained 12lbs from start to finish and ended up giving birth at 35 weeks. My son weighed 5lb 8oz and is perfectly healthy. He's nearly 3 weeks old now and I'm down to 118lbs but have a flabby tummy.

Do you have bad MS? I've read online that some women actually lose weight in the first trimester.

im 5'8 and I fluctuate between 8.5 and 9 stone (119 - 126 pounds)

with my first pregnancy I was 5'7 (yes I grew a random inch) and between 7 and 7.5 stone (98 - 105 pounds) which was underweight

im naturally quite slim as I dont eat many saturated fats (butter, mayo, cheese, milk, meat etc...) but I put on nearly 3 stone in my second trimester when I started craving milk

you have a bmi of 18 (same as me) which is healthy by the way

I have a low BMI as well (5'5" and 105lbs) and I think it contributed to me having difficulty getting pregnant, but I'm not overly worried about staying pregnant. I think the only concern is if you have very bad morning sickness and aren't able to get the nutrients you need. We don't have quite as much fat stored as other ladies do. Just make sure you're getting everything you need and a few hundred extra calories a day:)

my doctor didnt bring up my weight loss or gain until my 2nd trimester prenatal visit. everyone agrees im an itty bitty thing as i was weighing 114 in 1st tri and im 5'2. but im now 120 because the doctor put me on a milkshake diet and i gained a few pounds in the past week. it did stress me out because i always have trouble keeping the weight ive gained. its like my body just burns off calories and i dont even exercise more than just walking around shopping really. ive been size petite all my life.

I think a bmi under 18.5 is low. It's apart of the booking appointment they have to find out your bmi and refer to the consultant if under or over weight I think it whist to be cautious!
I have suffered with morning sickness but I've been eating normally :) I'm sure everything will be fine for all of us! Xx

The bmi thing is primarily a U.K thing. Here in Canada or u.s I don't find we discuss bmi or calculate it during prenatal care. Myself I'm on the other end (high bmi) but it's never been brought up. That's why many women on this thread or forum are saying it's not an issue. I still have no idea why British health care feel it's so important to herd ppl into a class based on a number. Some ppl are naturally thing some fat. I think unless there is a clear health issue due to weight it should be a non factor. All my British friends get so stressed over a stupid number. It's so silly!

I'm only 20 years old going onto 21 soon....anyways I'm 5'1 and weigh only 85lbs Im extremely weak all the time and since I'm still in my first trimester (10 weeks and 3 days) and food right now seems repulsive to me I just cant bring myself to eat. I absolutely hate feeling like this!

I'm almost 5'11", and my BMI was brought up when I was having problems with ovulation. I haven't had my first appointment yet (it's scheduled for 10 wks), but I know I've lost a few pounds with morning sickness! Just try and eat healthy (easier said than done if you have severe ms!), and everything should be okay.

Yeah the most important thing is that you eat healthy and fill up on the good foods. Bmi really isnt an issue. For me I have a high bmi but im very healthy otherwise and my dr isnt concerned at all that I weigh about 209lbs. All health checks out good, so its not a worry to them. But often those with a lower bmi or small weight tend to carry smaller babies that weight between 5-6lbs ish at birth.

have you had your thyroid checked? It's not as common as an under-active thyroid but an over active thyroid during pregnancy can cause weight loss. Basically your thyroid mistakes pregnancy hormones as thyroid stimulating hormones and becomes super charged causing a racing heart, anxiety, weight loss, sweating, etc. I lost weight in the beginning of both my pregnancies due to ms and loss of appetite and such, but I caught up and ended up gaining the average. If your eating healthy and there aren't any health problems causing it you could just be naturally thin
