Alright so I was talking to my mother yesterday and she was telling me that I might want to talk to my doctor about "Premature birth" because she had my sister a month early.. And me 3 weeks early (I was still a healthy weight, so dates might have been off) .. But then, my older sister has 4 kids and 3 out of 4 of them were premature.. 1 of them extremely. My grandma also said from my fathers side, most of the women went into labor early. I didn't have my "actual" doctor for my first appointment, he wasn't at the hospital that day.. But I filled out the family history paperwork before I knew about this. So do I just tell my doctor at my next appointment that it seems to run in my family and have him change the paperwork? Is it even possible for that to be genetic or is it just coincidental? Sorry if that isn't the brightest question, I'm just not sure. My mother also experienced gestational diabetes, I don't know whats relevent and what isn't to tell the doctor

Thanks.

i would raise it with your doctor hun i was 8 weeks early and my first son was 16 weeks early and my 2nd son was 3 weeks early so i made sure that this new hospital knew my history x

hmm I'm glad you mentioned this as I doubt I would have mentioned it to my doctor next week. I was 4 months early and my sis was 8 weeks early... I weighed in at 2 lbs 12 ozs.... I tell my mom I was inpatient then and I'm still inpatient :)

No, in general its not genetic, and it all depends on the reason for the premature birth. I was born at 29 weeks(cord entanglement) and I had my baby at 27 weeks(no reason found) Its coincidental im afraid

Thanks for the replies ladies, I'll mention it either way.. just so he doesn't decide to take a vacation. :)

Sb22- Your little girl is beautiful! Soo cute.

Thanks Bellablu - dont worry yourself.

It can happen to anyone, any age, any time, I never expected it, but I was lucky it turned out ok :)

All I would recommend to anyone is keep an open mind and if you suspect anything wrong, call your doctor or midwife:D
