Hello Girls!!

1st , I would like to Congratulate all moms to be, and that you all have a blessed pregnancy. :happydance:

Reason why I created this thread is because, I wanted to ask about progesterone use during your pregnancy.

Here's a little "life" feed back before I ask my question, I'll make it as short as possible … I'm currently 28yrs old, Mommy of 1 (9month old) I've been pregnant 4 times before, 3 miscarriages, 1 survived. Miscarried usually at 7-8 weeks. After going to a few docs, trying to find out why I kept having miscarriages, one doc was able to tell me that it was b/c of low HCG and that I needed progesterone to be able to have a successful pregnancy. Well, sure enough on my 4th pregnancy, I took progesterone the 1st trimester, and after that everything went great, had a health 8.7lb baby boy, whom is now 9months. :)

now, I'm pregnant AGAIN! I'm very excited, but nervous at the same time, I'm currently 6w 1d along, and haven't been able to see my OB GYN due to my insurance card not arriving, I did how ever go to the E.R last Friday, because I was curious to know what was going on, and the doc there said I was 5w 3d showing a sac, but no heartbeat, to follow up with my doctor. She added, that I could miscarry soon, do to bleeding she saw in the ultrasound, and some sort of cut on the sac, that could be part of the placenta or a threatened miscarriage.

Now I'm scared, and wondering, WILL I NEED TO TAKE PROGESTERON ONCE AGAIN? for those who needed progesterone (or knew someone who did) to have a successful pregnancy, did you/your friend have/had to take progesterone every time you got pregnant?

I am ALL eyes to all replies, and feedback. Please let me know what you think.. :coffee:

Hi sweetie,

First of all congratulations on your pregnancy!!! :happydance:

As a bit of a background, I had a blighted ovum pregnancy back in December, and now i´m 10w 2d with my 1st baby.... when I went for my frist ultrasound at 5w we were only able to see the gestational and yolk sacs, and still no HB because it is obviously too soon to be detected.... anyways, my gestational sac was a bit irregular at that time so my ob gave me a progesterone treatment (100 mg daily dose) that lasted about 3-4 weeks.... after 2 weeks of treatment got another U/S and the gestational sac was perfectly rounded and beautiful and guess what? there was the heartbeat!! I still continued the treatment for the whole 4 weeks to "preserve the pregnancy"..... So, of course I´m no doctor, but I would defenitely take a progesterone suplement, specially if there is a background of miscarriage, or in my case, the blighted ovum.

Hope I was able to help!! Keep cheerful!!

:dust:

I'm not in the exact same situation, but I am taking progesterone during my first trimester. I had 1 (possibly two) miscarriages due to low progesterone my RE thinks. So he monitored my progesterone very carefully and right at about 5-6 weeks it dropped so he put me on 200mg pills twice a day. Within a week my numbers went up to 40, which was great, so he says. Everything has been fine since, G-d willing, it stays that way!!!

But 5 weeks and 2 days is ok to not see a heartbeat yet. I know a lot of women where that was the case. Don't give up!! And I can't believe the doctor came to that diagnosis so quickly!! But RE did the same thing with this pregnancy, he told me he was almost certain this was not a viable pregnancy and so far so good :)

ALSO.....I work in the healthcare field, you shouldn't have to SHOW an insurance card, you just need to know the ID number and group number. So even if you haven't gotten it in the mail yet you can def still be seen me a physician!!!!

Good luck!!!! Keep us updated please!!!

Sometimes, women will need progesterone in all pregnancies, and sometimes not. I had low progesterone with my son and was put on 400 mg per day with him, this time I did not need any but I take 100 mg just for a peace of mind! 5 weeks is still VERY early to see a heartbeat. My sons was barely beating along at 6+2.

Thank you girls!

Well, I don’t have much of an update, but that I have a docs appointment this Friday! I told her I had insurance, but was just waiting on the card, and she said that was fine, to just come in Friday :D

So, I will let you all know how it goes, and what the doctor tells me.

… one quick fuss (I guess I can say) is that, for the past few days I've been waking up with horrible back ache, I don’t know if I should be concern, or its just one of the many pregnancy symptoms? Thank god I have my appointment tomorrow.

as for the heartbeat, I too knew 5w was too soon, I don’t know why the ER doctor had to go as far as "might be signs of a threatened miscarriage" pissy doctor!

I did IVF, and it worked on the first try. They're been having my do progesterone suppositories morning and night since May 1, and want me to continue until I'm 10 weeks pregnant.

At 6w2d, I had a scan where we were able to see a heartbeat, so I was released to my regular doctor. I was there yesterday, and was sort of hoping he'd let me stop doing the progesterone because frankly, I hate it....but he really feels it could make a difference, so I'm just going to do it. I only have to do it less than 2 more weeks at this point.

Congrats Hun!

… question, you mentioned "you hate it" can I ask; why do you hate it?

that give me a bit of curiosity.

Oh, they're vaginal suppositories. Two in the morning, two at night. At night it's not so bad because it's bed time, and people normally wear loose comfortable clothes to bed. During the day, until about lunch, it's just gross. No matter what time I force myself to wake up to do it, they sort of...leak, so I have to wear a liner. I'm just getting sick of it.

The other option were muscle shots daily. Honestly, they weren't even offered to me, but they sound even more horrible.

oooh, I see!! I totalllly understand now. I didn’t have to go thru any of that, I took pills/capsules … no side effects whatsoever. I had to take 2 pills every 12hrs :) … but any who, hold on mama! that part is almost over, and the fun is about to start ;) :happydance:

… as a reminder to those who replied to my thread, today's my doctor appt ... but it's not till 5pm pacific time.

wish me luck!!

p.s … my boobs have been superrrr soar/itchy, and little one has been crying like there's no tomorrow! ooooh , and he does NOT want to be with me whatsoever :( could my pregnancy be affecting him? HUM!

Best of lucks on your appointment today!!! Keep us posted okay????

Big hugs and baby dust!!

Hiiii Girls!!

Sorry on the late feedback, but I've been super busy at work, and once I get home my 9 month old doesn’t let me do anything that consist of mommy time, lol. :baby:

Any who, well, went to my docs appointment, didn’t get checked till almost 8pm, and it turns out there's bleeding around the yolk sac, doc was very concern about that, checked for a heartbeat andddd… there it was! baby was heart beating away :D <3 so, that was great news! he said not to panic, he prescribed progesterone (capsules) once again, and asked I'd take baby aspirin to stop the bleeding.

I have another appointment June 28th.

So with that being said, my thread has an official reply, I do have to take progesterone once again.

aaaah, GOOD LUCK AND LOTS OF BABY KEEP GROWING DUST!! :dust:

As per the side effects, I haven't had any actual side effects, 'cept that my tummy gets reallyyy upset : / … might be the baby aspirin too. IDK, but I'll put up with the symptom as long as it's needed, in order for my baby to be safe and sound.

keep me posted on YOUR u/s, hon!

and thanks for keeping up with my thread and showing concern.
Lots of love and respect from skittle & i :) <3

Obviously you will get much more accurate information from your doctor Friday than from me, but I thought I'd tell you what I know. :) I was on progesterone supplements until 10 weeks. I accidentally took an extra pill one day and called the doctor freaking out. He told me that too much progesterone will NOT hurt me or the baby. He doesn't know of any negative side effects of progesterone supplements during pregnancy. Therefore, I'd say that based on your past history of miscarriage, you'll probably be put on progesterone again just to be safe. Hope all goes well on Friday!

Soooo, we are on the safe side now :D

Hey girls,

This thread is so awesome, I got answers to most of my questions abt progesterone...

I needed your opinion on a doubt i still have...

Me and DH have been married for 3.5 yrs and actively TTC#1 from Apr'13. All our tests, scans have come out perfect, I ovulate on my own. Before TTC I had cycles b/w 28-30 days but after starting TTC, I'm seeing a trend of 24-26 days  .... Is TTC gotto do anything with it?

I even talked to my doc abt it, but she didn't seem concerned. Then for 3 cycles I monitored by luteal phase, n it seems I ovulate CD13-CD15 and AF arrives in another 10 or max 11 days. That means my LP is just 10/11 days :nope: .. I got so worried n again discussed it wid my doc last week. She asked me to get my FSH/LH tested on CD3 and I asked the lab guy to take samples for testing progesterone as well, as I think progesterone levels are tested on CD3 and CD21. I guess I'll have another round of FSH/LH tests mid cycle and on CD21.

Can any of u having a 10/11 day LP did take progesterone suppositories?

I hav an AMH of 3 but my total AFC just seems to be 10 :nope:
I dont know if this is fine as I'll be having IUI next cycle after i'm done with HSG on 1st Oct... Will this AFC interfere with stimulation working not so great?

----------------------------------------------
Me-29, DH-32
Actively TTC from Apr'13
Bloodwork/scans/SA perfect
No reason known for delay in conception

I take progesterone pill once a day! To help stat pregnant! I'm 5 weeks 3 days with twins! I go back in two weeks
