Hi ladies - I'm asking this for a friend who is going through an awful time at the mo, but if your waters go at around 17 weeks and baby is left with minimal fluids, is there any positive endings out there?
Been searching the net trying to find some positive outcomes to give her but sadly most of what I've read has been awful :( xx

i have no clue but just wanted to wish your friend luck...is she under dr care??? if so they will do their very best!

I had a friend in the hospital when her water broke at 21 weeks and there were other women who had been there earlier than her and had successful babies...but it's such an unknown....just tell your friend to be postive!!

Fb has a pPROM group. She will get lots of help and get to know good and bad stories. It's a very supportive group.
I pPROM at 27 weeks

Scuba dunno how your friends doing as I see it was a couple of weeks since you posted this and that sort of time frame can mean anything in pPROM world. Hope she is still pregnant? If so there definately is hope and she should remain cautious but positive.

I had pPROM with twins at 19 weeks altho it wasnt diagnosed until 22+5 (I was fairly sure what had happened but they couldnt see any evidence on the exam). Even though it was really early they said if I went into labour they would attempt resuss if babies tried to breathe and I was offered steroid shots to mature their lungs. My fluid levels didnt seem too low and after I was released from hospital I did minimal activity for 2 weeks and drank loads of water (hydration is supposed to help). The leaking stopped and I got to 34 weeks before they said the fluid levels were low, even so I wasnt induced until 37+1 when they were born (smallish) but with no problems and no NICU.

I know your friend has low fluid already but it may replenish somewhat and even so when I was going through this I read many crazy stories of women with no fluid making it to 30+ weeks. Sometimes the babies needed extra care because of the low fluid though as it can impact on lung and limb maturity.

But what I have found is there is always a little hope with pPROM.... hope your friend is still doing ok.

I really hope your friend is doing ok and is still cooking her LO. I Prom'd at 17 weeks with my last baby, I carried her for 2 more weeks in a desperate hope the fluid would re accumulate but sadly it didnt and I was advised to terminate my pregnancy.

I think even if the AF level is low there is a chance though, if there is pockets of fluid near babys mouth to help baby mature its lungs even better.

I wish her the very best xx

I know this is an older post, but I hope everything is fine for your friend! I also had pPROM at 18 weeks, and found this site to be very helpful. There are a lot of encouraging stories here :)

I am going through this myself right now and its terrifying. I have found many any success stories which have really given me hope. I'm talking women going nearly the whole pregnancy with little to no fluid and the baby may have needed some care in some instances but sometimes none. What I've learned is that we just don't know what will happen but one woman said " you may regret giving up but you'll never regret fighting for your baby" so that's where im at right now. I wish her all the best!
