Since DS was about 12 mos we have had a little potty that we would invite him to sit on during nappy-free time and also when he was clothed (as practice) to see if we would have a "catch."
Then about a month ago, when he turned 2, since we knew he was doing a wee in his bathwater anyway, we would put him in at first standing up and he would watch the wee happen. Each night he would do this and point to himself and wait to see the wee before sitting down.
Last night I asked before his bath if he wanted to try to do a wee on the potty. He said "yeah" so instead of standing him in the bath as usual, I helped him onto his potty and we waited. Then it happened! He shouted, "Mama, wook!" There he was doing a wee for the first time IN the potty!! I cheered so loud and we clapped and shouted for Daddy (who was downstairs). Then just before bed I asked if he would like to try again, so on the potty he went, this time with Daddy present, and it happened again! Fanfare and high-fives all around...we made SUCH a huge deal and he was so proud of himself! He even said, "Mama, two wee!" Then we poured it into the toilet and I let him do the flush.
I know any Mommy would be proud, but I think I underestimated just how much -- but suffice it to say I'm still beaming!
We're thinking we will take it slow and follow his lead, but it's certainly a good start, especially since he sees such a positive response.
Any other Mommies have a good start like this? Suggestions on how to proceed?
