Fia is being brought up trilingual and today she said her first French word :) It's "coucou" which means Hi.

She learnt it with her babysitter. I was kind of dubious when her babysitter told me and then she sat saying "coucou" to her teddies and when I asked her what she was going to say to Sophie tomorrow she said "coucou".

So cute!

Well done!!

Which languages is ur LO learning??

English, Italian and French. She'll also learn German from the age of 6 at school.

It's pretty cool because she's only really had proper exposure to French from the beginning of August when she started having a babysitter and then started nursery 3 weeks ago. Amazing how quickly they pick things up.

Thats fantastic! My mom (who lives with us) speaks only French to gabriel so I hope he picks it up :) I understand it as well but I speak English to him and he will be learning Dutch in 2012 when he starts nursery. Will be seeing how Sofia gets on with all her languages :)

I'm sure he will! DH works away so she gets much more exposure to English than Italian but he is very good at speaking exclusively to her in Italian. She understands perfectly though only has 3 Italian words (lost count of her English, chatterbox!).

The only thing I've noticed is that since starting nursery her language generally has slowed down, she's not coming out with as many new words as before but I guess it's quite a lot to take in. She was sooo pleased with herself today with her new word :cloud9:

Aw, I'd be very proud too. I speak to my LO in silly accents...so I'm expecting a try-lingual :haha: Unspurprisingly - he doesn't say anything totally coherent yet!

that's so clever! Well done Sofia :)

Aww, clever girl! That's fantastic :D

I half toyed with the idea of bringing my LO up with me speaking to her in French and my OH using English. I'm half Swiss (although I was brought up speaking English), and I thought it'd be nice for her to have at least a familiarity with French. Somehow it fell off the radar though
