Hey guys, I have a question.

Right now we are TTC through using a sperm donor and at-home inseminations. On 11/9 I took an ovulation test that looked almost positive so I inseminated on that day to be safe, then again on the 10th, and the 11th. On both the 10th and 11th my test lines were darker than the control line (which I've never seen before in all of my cycles)- I forgot to take a picture of the test from the 10th, but it was dark like the ones on the 11th. I felt a little pinching pain on the right side where my ovary would be earlier today so I assumed maybe I was ovulating and my test line would be lighter again....no, the test line is STILL darker than the control line.

Was just wondering if you guys think I have already ovulated maybe and the test is still reading very positive or if I haven't yet ovulated and should inseminate again tonight to be safe?? I assumed having over two days of very positive OPK's, today's test would be negative so now I'm confused :/

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The tests you are using are known to be sensitive and so detect long surges, without temping you will be unable to confirm exactly when you ovulated, you typically ovulate 12-48 hours after the first positive OPK :) Good luck x

I've never tried temping before- if I don't get pregnant this month I might try temping next month.....I inseminated again last night to be on the safe side....didn't take any tests today to see if my surge went away though. When would you suggest I start temping? Thanks for the help.

I agree with this lady!

If you start temping it's best you do it from CD1 or as soon as you've stopped bleeding. There are two ways you can take your temperature, Orally or Vaginally. Personally I find vaginally the way forward for me, though I only start doing it once I've stopped bleeding.

Things to bear in mind are:
* The time you take your temperature needs to be the exact same time of day - every day.
* If you wake early or late you can use an online BBT adjuster - but this may not be as accurate as it could be
* After ovulation your temperature should dramatically spike to indicate ovulation has happened, the hormone progesterone takes over and that causes the spike in temperature
* Post ovulation you can expect a temperature dip (I think from 6dpo - 12dpo) which would indicate implantation - you may experience some implantation spotting.
* IF you get a post ovulation temperature dip, It MAY BE implantation, in which case it will take AT LEAST 2 days for the pregnancy hormone HCG to turn a home pregnancy test positive

Temping can be great but it is not reliable for some women. Most of us use a site called 'Fertility Friend' (see link in my signature) and they clearly state the ONLY way to detect a pregnancy isn't about guessing graph lines - it is taking that pregnancy test.
You can pay for membership upgrades so you can over lay your graph with someone who has been pregnant on their cycle - but again, that's no sure fire way you are or will be pregnant that cycle.

Another thing that is indicative (and fairly successful) is having a triphasic chart recorded for your cycle. This means you have THREE temperature shifts on your chart.

I hope that's given you some insight. Any questions, feel free to ask :)

Thanks for your help Miss406 :)

I use fertility friend to track my period/fertile days....if I don't end up pregnant this month I will def look into temping!
