How many of you got their progesterone tested just after BFP. Are there any symptoms of low progesterone? Just curious thats why asking. :shy:

No symptoms! I'm on progesterone pills , my levels at 4 weeks 6 days was 24

They tested mine with my second because I was under a fertility specialist so it's part of what they do. Apparently it was low (11) but right on the edge so I wasn't actually given progesterone or anything. I didn't notice anything different, and the pregnancy was totally fine. I haven't been tested with my other 2 pregnancies as it's not generally a test they do routinely - there would have to be some reason (usually fertility treatment).

Wow on progesterone pills with a number of 24! Never heard of getting meds when it's that high.

I was tested with my last pregnancy b/c they found a missed miscarriage (my 2nd miscarriage) and my levels were normal - 27 at 7+5 weeks.

This pregnancy, my third and hopefully my rainbow, they have not tested. My doc's do not believe progesterone is the cause of my issues. If they find your levels are low they can't do anything about it anyway. You have to start progesterone on 3dpo for it to have affect the fetus. Anything after is for security of the patient but will not change the outcome of the pregnancy (although it can delay a miscarriage).

So, probably better to not know.

My progesterone was 10.65 at 6w3d and I was put on supplements. I also think 24 is high to be put on progesterone from the research that I have done. It seems normal. Some people take progesterone after ovulation if low progesterone prevents pregnancy. After pregnancy is started, I believe low progesterone can still cause miscarriage. From what I have read, there are no ill side effects to the baby if you take it during the first tri, so if you have low progesterone, why not take it to be on the safe side?

This is my first time, so i have no clue how to go about these things. I got bfp at 10dpo and yesterday at 15dpo i had my first bloodtest done. I have an lp of 14-15 days and never spotted. But still i felt if its advisable to get it tested Since my next appointment is on 6th of Oct and the only way to get it tested before that is from a pvt lab.

Have you had any miscarriages in the past? If not really, there is no reason to worry.

I have had two, like I said, and even still progesterone is not a consideration at the moment.

Again, once the pregnancy is in the uterus progesterone supplements will not help sustain it if it's not meant to be. They won't hurt, but they won't help either. Typically they are just prescribed for peace of mind unless you start them at 3 dpo.

Not all women have symptoms of progesterone deficiencies but most will have either or both a short luteal phase (you do not) or low/erratic temps during the luteal phase.

Re the woman who said she is on supplements and has a level of 24 - I read that as she was on supplements before BFP and therefore has a level of 24. Not that they put her on b/c her level is 24 but maybe I read it wrong.

I think different doctors have different opinions about whether or not progesterone supplements will help after a pregnancy is established. My doctor seemed to think that progesterone supplements would benefit me even at 6 weeks pregnant and I will be taking it throughout the first tri.

Omg MrsWKJ, you got your bfp? Huge congrats to you!! It's fantastic to see you in 1st tri! How are you feeling?

In answer to your question, they didn't test my progesterone. As a pp said, there's some disagreement as to whether it would help to take progesterone supplements in pregnancy as miscarriage may still be inevitable.

Can I jump in here and ask, what is considered a short LP? My LP from last month was 13 days. I just finished breastfeeding my 15 month old, 3 weeks ago. Im a little worried that my hormones are really messed up...I'm only 4+3 with my 3rd baby...no history of m/c(knock on wood). Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure anything under 10 days is considered a luteal phase defect. 13 is just fine!

No dear no MC its my first time. Also my temps Post O temps are high and stable. So i guess i shouldn't worry about it. Hopefully my levels are good.

Thanks alot redlemonade!! Im feeling over the moon! very excited and praying everything just goes smoothly.
Thanks alot for the input i guess i shouldn't worry about it also. I have an appointment on 6th i'll see what my gyn says.

So Good to see you are at 7 weeks and doing good , when is your scan scheduled?? It must be so exciting to hear the heartbeat. GL dear x

Yes, try not to worry until you see your gyn. I know it's hard not to worry but stay positive :)

Yep I'm 7 weeks now! MS hit me bad in the last week but I've managed much better today so lets hope that continues! I had a scan a couple of days ago due to a scare last week so I've already seen the heartbeat! Sooo cool! Early scans aren't common here unless there's a problem so my next scan - the 12 week scan - will be early November :) Can't wait!

Very pleased to see you here, all the best for the next 9 months!

You will be just fine! Congrats!! When you are nervous (as we can all be) just try to take deep breaths and think happy thoughts. It's normal to worry about possibilities but try to just focus on the good as much as you can.

I also heard under 10 days. Mine is 13-14 (most often 14) and my doc said that's perfect.

I was put on it before we found out my number! My dr wanted me on it bc if my history of miscarriages ! I take it that's a good number ? I know with my 3rd loss my progesterone went from 15 to 13 !

I actually asked to have my progesterone tested because I was charting and noticed from my chart signs of low progesterone. I actually got a BFP over the weekend before I got my results, but it was only a 5.6. I knew from research that was low, but my doctor didn't think I needed it, she did agree to give it to me anyways. It was obviously high enough for me to ovulate, but I was afraid it wouldn't support a pregnancy.

I never had it tested again, but I took the suppoistories once a day until 14 weeks.

I had my appointment today and my gyn had my blood drawn for different tests including progesterone. Although im gonna get the results after a week but she put me on progesterone that is supposed to be taken vaginally. Anyone has any experience taking progesterone vaginally??
