Hiya,

Well LO has been weaning for about a month now (I started really slowly) but over the last 2 weeks he;s taken to it with great guns and is having 2 /3 "meals" a day along with boobie milk.

I keep looking at the baby snacks you can give babies form 7 months... like puff corn etc...

Think LO would be fine with these but the whole 7 month label on them is worrying me as LO is only 6 months and 1 week old.

Do you think the age is a guide or a strict age limit?

He has been weaning for a month is this makes any difference?

What do you all think ladies???

I have them earlier than 7 months but we were BLW and I knew he would handle them. How are you weaning your LO? Have you given other finger foods yet?

I didn't start my LO on puffs and Cheerios until a little over a month ago. But he is TW and didn't seem to handle chunks to well in his purees. He now eats them like a pro, well at least when he's not throwing them everywhere :) so I think it's what you feel comfortable with and how you think your LO will be able to handle them.

He's fine to have them earlier but at 6 months he won't have the pincer grip yet so he won't be able to guide the tinier things like the puffs into his mouth very well. For us i prefered giving him fruits and veggies he could manage at 6 months and saved the store bought snacks for treats when he was older etc. I think I first bought the gerber puffs while we were on vacation at 8 months. The only exception is the baby mum mum rice rusks, they are long and easier to hold and nom down so those were given as a treat from about 6.5 months (usually when we were shopping and he wouldn't stay still lol)

Yeah, my LO had trouble with the puffs until her pincer grip was perfected so I don't know if there'd be much point in getting those earlier.

We give her those yogurt bars that are 12m+ and she loves them. I'd say generally just a guideline, especially from a BLW perspective.

Its a guide imo. If you think lo can handle them try them but make sure to always supervise closely.. We give Abby a few things labeled for 10 months + like diced carrot and apple trays.

My LO could handle them at 5 and a half months, he used to pick them up himself . He eats ricecakes labeled 12m+ too x

I gave them to my DD at 6 months as first finger foods and found them a good starting point because they dissolve nicely. I figured you can BLW at 6 months so this would be ok! DD is now 8 months and is happy with lots of finger foods and chopped foods.

I don;t give them to be honest as they are in my opinion like crisps in a disguise. We give rice cakes bread sticks or cheese. I think the age guide is just a guide - from six mths they are supposed to be able to eat anything so i guess yu could try your Lo and see how he get's on. If you do decide to give the crispy things i can't see they be a problem as they are like wotsit y sort of things and melt in the mouth and are the right size for babies to handle

For any US ladies who don't have them, they are giant cheetos, really big and all organic, carrot flavour snacks.

We gave them about 6 months, i used them to introduce both of mine to finger foods as they melt away and i was less scared of them than fruit etc (he had 8 teeth and could easily chomp off a chunk!)

The puffs labelled 7 months plus are huge, especially the Organix ones! Tanwen was able to grasp them happily in her full fist and chomp on them for a few weeks before she got the hang of the pincer grip, it just meant that she could only eat half of each one! She was having them from about 5 months! That's when she decided that purees were way too smooth for her too so we moved her up a stage on food generally! The age guides are just a guide, I've always been one to just go with what the child is ready for than trying to force them to do what labels/ guidelines say! I was always more comfortable giving those early on as they just melt. Plus they're way more convenient when you're out and about than trying to remember to pack the cheese that you've chopped, etc but then again I've always been a bit lackadaisical and forgetful when it comes to packing food and usually just buy something whilst we're out! :dohh:

Beca

Again we started them at 6 months as lo likes to feed himself bits and pieces x

We have puffs the size of cheerios and puffs that are longer like cheetos here in the us. Both my girls started with the cheerios size puffs at 6 months. No issues picking them up. I introduced the longer ones a few weeks later once they got the hang of things a bit more.

Both were traditionally weaned. Both were bored of the tiny puffs by 9 months. Jordan refuses even the baby mum mum rice rusks these days. But Megan would to this day eat buckets full of those cheesy puffs if I let her. :haha:

With my youngest I used to give them very occasionally; starting from 6 months; mainly when I was doing stuff in the kitchen and needed to keep him occupied for a bit as they were just empty and full of air they didn't fill him up too much xx
