My lo was born 9\22\11 and hasn't wet a diaper yet. however she's had around five or more Pooped diapers. should i be worried? am i over thinking this?

I don't know the "right" answer to your question, but I didn't want to read and run...I do remember in the hospital feeling like my LO wasn't wetting many diapers for the first few days, just lots of merconium coming out. The wet diapers really started when we got home!

Thank you for answerin. it.'s hard to reach out and ask family because they act like i'm slow for asking questions and many family member's like me were formula fed

what kind of diapers do you have? i have the huggies little snugglers, which i love! but its really hard to tell if they are wet...i think i read they absorb liquid and turn it to gel. and if there was mecconium diapers i really dont htink you would be able to tell there was pee lol.

lol! the hospital uses the Brand Pamper's and it has the strip that changes color when it.s wet. i was lookin at her pooh and back at the nurse askin ugh how do you know it.'s not wet all i see is pooh!

I bet there is urine there, it's just so hard to tell! They never have a napy on long enough for it to get soggy, with all the pooing a newborn does.

I was in hospital for 4 days and the nurses and midwives would rip the nappy open to see if there was any pee in it.

You could try a cloth nappy? Just for a few hours?

My hospital used the pampers too...but put size one on her! Her poop got everywhere because it was way too big on her! So I put my own on...they also turn blue when she pees...but its always on the butt...she pees backwards i guess lol...so i thought she wasnt peeing either and turns out i wasnt seeing it cuz i was just checking the front. Every baby is different....my LO was a poop machine her first day of life and now she hasnt pooped since.

If you feel the front of the nappy, it should feel squidgy (that's the best word to describe it :haha: Feel a dry nappy and then one you just take off LO after a bit. :flower:

as a poster on here once said, 'the poo's the clue', them passing the meconium guarantees they are passing urine as well, as it takes quite a decent amount of colostrum to produce that many dirty nappies, it is probably just being absorbed by the nappy.xx

I didn't notice heavy wet nappies to start with because of all the poop, I knew he was weeing though because everytime I took the nappy off I got squirted, haha!
My midwife said not not expect heavily wet nappies (ones with no poop in) til my milk had come in and the biggest clues that everything was OK was that we had lots of meconium which changed colour (subtle colour change at first only noticeable on the wipes/cotton wool).
x

^WSS. Also I remember reading in the UNICEF/NHS (of UK) booklet regarding BF that in the first 48 hours most BF babies only have two wet nappies and they are not talking sopping wet here, from day three onwards it should start to increase by one wet nappy per day of life until it reaches 5-6 on day six (some babies will have a lot more wet nappies than this; and this is fine too) xx

thank you guy's so much for answering! i feel so much better. and i've noticed when i'm alone with her i do way better opposed to everyone watching and making comments

I totally agree! Everyone has their own opinion about what to do with your baby  It's crazy!
