Weve found nights difficult lately, jack doesn't seem to settle come night time and lastnight I realized that it was being flat that is the problem. He brings up and easily but has alot of it so I thought id have a go at raising his mattress at one end.

How would you do this? Iv put a pillow under the head of the mattress...is that safe enough?

Thanks xxx

We put blocks under the top two legs, but books would work just as well. Norhing for baby to get tangled up in that way :flower:

He should really be laying flat hun, especially at night when sleeping. It helps them develop their spine properly and if they need to be sick, they can turn their heads easily. Its not as easy for them to turn their heads if theyre upright and they could choke on sick easier :( Obviously as he gets older its not as much of an issue although the SIDS risk is still a bit higher but as Jack is so little, I'd put his matress flat.

I'm sorry I didn't see how old your LO was. We have only raised Fran's mattress temporarily becuase she has a cold and is struggling to breathe when lying flat.

I think you should get some advice before propping your LO's mattress up. I've read on here that babies with reflux can benefit from having their mattress raised slightly but for the reasons Blah states I would check first xx

Oh right, ill definately leave it flat for now then, thanks for the advice xx

We raised the whole cot by the legs from just a few days old. Lo's mattress was still completely flat in that her spine was held straight, but the whole thing was on an angle iykwim? the hv told us that it was fine to do that as long as her spine was kept straight :flower:

Leos mattress has been raised since he was 2 weeks old, but he suffers from bad reflux. We've got a large blanket rolled up under the head of the mattress, but a pillow would do aswell, as long as its under the mattress.

Is he sick a lot?

If you're raising the head of the cot, you need to raise the whole thing rather than just the matress. When Tegan was in a moses basket we put blankets over the bar bit to raise it by just a few inches, but put blocks under the legs of the cot. x

Thanks,he isn't sick alot but he seems to suffer with wind...as though he always has wind iykwim ...he is constantly fussing and getting worked up at night. He sleeps really well in his bouncer but nowhere elsexx

Just asking cause sounds like the way Leo used to be, he just hated lying flat, he always slept well in his bouncer aswell x

We've put a small pillow under Benjamins mattress and he has slept so much better the last few days. He hates being on his back and gets horrific hiccups and can be sick this hasnt happened now we've raised the mattress. I think he's suffering from a bit of reflux.

My LO hated lying flat at first as well and only slept well in his rocker. My Hv suggested a folded towel under the head of the mattress when he was about the same age as your LO. It raised the mattress only by a cm or so so didnt affect his ability to turn ihis head or be sick safely but seemed to be just enough that he was more comfortable and will now happily sleep in his moses basket.

sounds like reflux. The only way I could get ds to sleep in moses basket was to prop up the rockers slightly. You can buy special wedges and sleep supports instead but this way's cheaper!

Our HV told us it was fine to raise two legs at the top of the cot with blocks underneath. This ensured the mattress itself was completely flat.

My LO is still in a moses basket at night and we've angled the stand so it's raised slightly (he has reflux and still has a lot of c-section mucus) but the mattress is still straight
