This is a silly question really :haha:

A friend of mine just put on fb that she'd made her daughter dinner and was gonna let her loose with a spoon, her daughter is 2.

I just wondered when they get enough control to feed themselves fairly well, I was under the impression that perhaps aged 2 a child might be getting the hang of it? I know there will still be lots of mess for a long time :haha:

Just a little disclaimer: This isn't me being rude about her child, she was very early and hasn't got the hang of certain things at the same time as other children her age. I just haven't been around a toddler in a long, long time so can't really remember! Lol :flower: x

my 18 month old uses a spoon regularly, he gets the food off the plate onto his spoon and into his mouth maybe 50% of the time depending what the food is. more often it keeps falling off he gets frustrated and picks it up with his fingers, if its a solidish thing or gets it over his chin if ts liek a yoghurt or whatever.

So if baby was delayed cos of being prem its probably about right i would think

I think I read somewhere that the average age for using cutlery is 18 months but I have no idea either. Ashley is one and has been able to handle preloaded spoons since 6 months. He's nowhere near using cutlery independently yet.

Thanks ladies, it just prompted a conversation between the two of us but as she's also a mummy of one to her little preemie she wasn't sure either lol :flower: x

Rivets 3 and can use a fork pretty well. Willow is 50/50 with a fork

My LO is 18 months. She's pretty good with a fork now. Not so much with the spoon...it's tougher because the food falls off easier. We just keep working at it. Certainly not an expert at 18 months.

Ashley took a stab at some broccoli with a fork last night, I was so proud!

Alex was a 27 week prem and it took a long, long time to get the hang of a spoon. At least 2.5-3years

Noah's almost 14 months and he's just beginning to use a spoon or fork, but still a long way off, he'd rather use his fingers. I work in a nursery and by 18 months most children can use cutlery to some degree, some better than others.
