This morning I had to go to the unemployment office to get a paper that I need for our taxes stating what I received from them last year...it's literally a 1 minute task, but seeing as things in Greece are terrible at the moment, our unemployment offices are all jam packed with people!

So I get up reeeaaally early to make sure I get there before most people do, and I arrive to a line of 5-6 people before me. OK..at most it's an hour wait depending on what they have to do, and I patiently wait in line instead of asking to go first which I could have done.

About 45 minutes pass...I'm starting to get really hot and I'm in pain because of my sciatica, but I'm next so the worst is over. In waltzes another pregnant lady and cuts in front of the 20+ people that are now behind me and stands next to me...our bumps are the same size, and I'm sure she's seen that I'm just as pregnant as she is. As soon as the guy in front of us starts gathering his papers she steps forward to take my place!! So I VERY politely say "excuse me...since I'm pregnant too and have been waiting for almost an hour...could you not take my place?"

And what does she do? She freaks the hell out screaming at me about how people don't respect pregnant women and that by law she's entitled to cut in place and just has a melt down. By this point I'm starting to get dizzy because it's hot and stuffy in there and I try not to get too upset, so I ask her "why is your pregnancy more important than mine?! I've been waiting in line patiently for almost an hour while you just got here! you can wait another minute!!" Other people start telling her that she's rude and should be ashamed of herself for not respecting another pregnant woman so she starts saying that she didn't know I was pregnant and that how was she supposed to know that I'm not just fat?!? :dohh: I just shook my head at her and said that it's terrible that she expects people to give up their place in a very long line for her, but she's not willing to do the same for someone else that's pregnant too!! And not only that...but she has the audacity to make up stupid excuses for her terrible behavior by insulting me!

If she had been really heavily pregnant I would have given her my spot in a heartbeat even tho I thought I was about to fall down from the heat, but I had heard her talking to another lady in the cue saying that she was 5 months along which means we're at the same point in our pregnancy...why should I have to wait for her to get done with her MOUNTAINS of paperwork while I had already been waiting in line even tho I didn't have to?!

So that's my reeeeaaally long rant :haha:

!!!!! What an asshole!!!! I don't think we have that line cutting rule in the United States.

Since when did any pregnant woman have the right to jump any queue?

I'd have wrestled her to the ground ;) . I think she is rude and I feel sorry for her poor oh xxx

We definitely don't have that rule here, but I think lots of people in NZ would simply offer you a spot further towards the front of the queue.

This far along, I would say thanks but politely decline because I'm pretty good at this point, but towards the end of third tri I would gratefully take their spot!!

She's definitely a rude one and sounds very entitled.

Oh my goodness, how rude. I have had many excuses to rant lately about men pushing in front of me, taking the last seat etc, even pushing me out of the way to get to last seat, but another pregnant woman!? Terrible behaviour.

xxx

in Greece, you can move to the front of the line if you're pregnant, disabled or elderly. A woman behind me even asked why I was waiting in line, but I don't feel like my time is more important, or I deserve special treatment just because I'm pregnant. I decided to wait my turn because I feel like that rule applies to heavily pregnant women that can't stand around for an hour or more...I still can!

How rude! Good on you for standing up for yourself.
They have that rule in Brazil and it also includes people with small children. Although you always get the rude person that uses their 10 year old to jump ahead.

I went to the bank the other day and there was NO ONE in line, and the person I needed to see wasn't in his spot, and the security officer saw I was pregnant and went to get him. I guess it's ok if they offer you to move ahead in the line, but it's not ok to push your way through!! Such an ass that woman

Good for you that you stood up for yourself!! You should be proud. Had it happened to me I would probably be too shocked to speak and would then regret not saying something.

I can't believe she was so rude to you and to everyone else. Obviously if she had asked people in the queue if they would mind her cutting in if she was pregnant it would have been another thing altogether - but you can't EXPECT people to let you cut in because you're pregnant.

HOW RUDE!!! I would have been fuming!!!!! Grrrrrr :flower:

Oh wow I am shocked and kinda pissed off!!!!

If it were me I would have been also (as another poster said) too shocked to say anything and then regret being silent...! Good on you, for standing up for yourself!

What a bitch to add insult to injury by insinuating you're fat. I think I'd have said, "well how do I know you're not just fat?"

I'm a little mad for you right now!

I think I may have been a little less polite about it than you

Wow! She is incredibly rude! I am glad you stood your ground.

In the US, at least my part of the country, a law like that would NEVER fly. People wont give up their seats on a subway or even let you cut in line to go to the bathroom even if its 20 people long. Everyone is incredibly self absorbed here.

People really wot even give up their seat. Me and my 4 year old gave up our seat on the train the other day because apparently everyone else didn't notice the 9 months pregnant woman standing and getting bumped around during rush hour

People are rude

You handled her rude behaviour so well :) some ppl honestly !
