Well, my princess is finally here. After waiting for what seemed to be a lifetime to add a little girl to our growing family, she made it into the world on August 22, 2012 at 4:11am. For those of you who followed my posts, you'll know that after a 45 minute walk around Menards on August 20, 2012 I lost my plug. But I wasn't convinced that labor would start anytime soon, though I wanted it to. My husband, 2 kids and I went for a walk that evening to try and keep things moving along. The following day, August 21, 2012, we went BACK to Menards and walked around for probably another 30 minutes...we had just painted our oldest son's room and found we needed more paint (incase you were wondering why we spent so much time there).
After returning home, I started to get contractions, but they were very sporadic and not completely painful. Fast forward to approximately 8:30pm-9pm, contractions were coming around 7 1/2-8 minutes apart on average (thanks to my contraction timer app), and were EXTREMELY painful. As painful as I recall contractions to be. Yet, low and behold, I still wasn't 100% sold that labor was on its way. At about 10:30pm, I decided that the contractions had gone on long enough, and I was going to call my doctor. The hospital ride is about a half hour away, and I had such a deep fear of having my newborn baby in the car on the way to the hospital. I was induced with my 2 boys and had never had to labor on my own. When I called the doctor, he wasn't on call for the evening, and they ended up calling the other doctor from the clinic. I waited 40 minutes for a return call, and during that time, my contractions went from 7 1/2 minutes apart to about 4. I decided with or without that call from the doctor, I was going to the hospital. So, my husband packed up all the bags into the car, my boys were ready to go, and I called my sister to come and pick them up. Just as we were getting ready to leave, the doctor called back saying to go in to the hospital if I was uncomfortable...which I was beyond uncomfortable at that time. I could barely stand, and when I did, it immediately brought on another contraction. I couldn't hardly pee, even though I knew I had to. I spent a few contractions on all fours in the living room, because that was the only position to bring me relief.
So, we drop off the boys with my sister and began our trek to the hospital. At this point, I was very scared that we weren't going to make it. We ended up behind 2 police cars and asked one for an escort, to only be turned down. JERKS!! We made it to the hospital at approximately 12:30am, and when I was first taken to the room and checked, I was already 5cm!! The nurse said my water bag was bulging and my cervix was paper thin. I asked if I could have an epidural, only to be told that they will TRY because 5 women, including myself came into the hospital in labor all at once, and the only anesthesiologist was in an emergency c-section. They ended up calling in another anesthesiologist, and I did get my epi. After he administered the epi, the nurse checked me and I was at 8cm, at about 2am. After a few more contractions and some huffing and puffing, Rayne Amia Smith was born at 4:11am, weighing a hefty/healthy 8lbs 6oz, and is 20 1/2 inches long. I did tear, but it was expected, as I was cut with my boys (they say once you're cut or tear, any subsequent labors will probably result in the same, as that area is never as strong as it used to be). Funny thing, she weighed more than either of my boys!! She is the most beautiful creation I have ever seen, and never imagined this day would come. I love all of my children, and each birth brings a newfound sense of love and pride. I am absolutely smitten with her. As painful as the entire process was, it was over before I knew it and I was holding my first baby girl, and more than likely my last child. Well worth any pain in the world. Thanks again to all of you amazing ladies that traveled the pregnancy journey with me. I absolutely love this website and found it to be so comforting during my pregnancy. I wish all of you nothing but the best, and can't wait to read all of your birth stories!
