Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

Actually low progesterone CAN cause early losses. Progesterone is needed to keep your luteal phase (the time from ovulation to AF arrival) long enough for baby to implant properly. If your LP isn't long enough for that to happen, you can have a chemical pregnancy. So progesterone actually isn't a bad idea, especially if your levels have tested on the low side during pregnancy. That's not saying there's not something else going on but it is still a possibility.

Crow-I'm so sorry for your losses. I've had a few losses that took me by surprise after a 'good news' scan just days/hours prior. It's gut wrenching. :hugs:

Oh I absolutely agree! I think it's just tough for them to tell if progesterone is a cause or a symptom of a specific miscarriage. I am heading down the road of progesterone testing next actually. I hope we all eventually get our rainbows :hugs:

Oh that's really interesting, thank you ... I have never heard that before. Can I ask who told you or where did you read that? I'd like to look it up for a bit more info :)

I had 6mmc, baby hasn't developed beyond 6w, mine weren't chromosomal , thyroid and elevated nk cell were my problems

Xx

Implantation is another issue that can cause miscarriages before 6w that could be womb lining related, blood clotting or progesterone.

Hope, am I right in thinking you are PG again, or am i Making that up?

Hi, I just found out that I am going to miscarry again. This will be my 2nd miscarriage. I went in for an US on Monday and they still couldn't find a heartbeat so they are recommending that I get a D&C... I am a little worried about having the procedure done, but maybe it would be better than just waiting for it to happen naturally? Then it would be over with and I could start to move on... Any advice from you ladies?

I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't think anyone can really guide with this since it's such a personal decision. Plenty of the ladies on here prefer to have the d&c whereas I had all 16 of my miscarriages naturally because I preferred to wait than have the procedure. Just do what is right for you at this moment in time :hugs:

808malia-I'm so sorry for your losses. I've had 9 natural miscarriages and 1 D&C. All of my natural losses started before I had confirmation of the miscarriage so I had no choice in the matter. Since those losses were all between 7 and 9.5 weeks, I was able to manage at home with advil and a heating pad. For those, I don't think I would have opted for a D&C anyway. However, I did opt for the surgery for one loss and it was because I was 14+1 when I found out the baby's heartbeat was gone. I knew that my chances of hemorhage and infection had increased because I was that far along. I also had two small children at home at the time and didn't want to risk a major bleed or unmanageable pain while trying to care for them. After a week's wait, nothing was starting anyway so I had a D&C.

As tasha said, it's a personal choice. For me, the choice wasn't mine 9 times out of 10 but the one time I did want to have a D&C, I was able to have it. The procedure wasn't too bad. I was put under general anesthetic and woke up 20 minutes later. I had pain management until I left the hospital 1.5 hours later but the bleeding slowed within a few hours and I didn't need anything stronger than advil by the end of the day.

Hi could i please join you all?

A bit of a back story(i'll try to keep it short). I had my first daughter by surprise in 2009, no problems not even any symptoms and a shock only finding out i was pregnant at almost 9 weeks. I then tried for 2 years for my son from 2011-2013 but couldnt conceive. After a variety of tests i was diagnosed with unexplained fertility and given clomid. BFP first round. Pretty straight forward pregnancy until 34 weeks when my waters broke. I didnt deliver him until 36 and was then induced due to IUGR but otherwise healthy. I then done a further 3 rounds of clomid to have another baby and have not been successful since. In them 3 rounds of clomid ive had 3 BFPS. 1 was an early MC, one was an ectopic and one was a late MC at 19 weeks, my beautiful little girl. Post-mortem showed clots in my placenta and a small baby and also anemia and fetal-maternal hemorrhaging . Since my late MC ive dropped close to 80lbs and this month for the first time since 2009 i conceived naturally, without even trying! My joy was short lived though and im currently going through yet another early loss.

After my second tri loss I was given blood tests for lupus and clotting disorders and all were negative. My fertility specialist said it was a case of bad luck and told me to take daily baby aspirin during my next pregnancy. Obviously that didnt work as im losing another pregnancy. Ive got another appt next week with her so i was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas on what other tests i could ask to be ran? Thank you

Youngmam, I've heard that some of the blood clotting tests are not accurate unless you're pregnant? I'm not sure if it's true but my OB will be running them when I conceive again, she said some are not accurate until you're pregnant. Maybe something to ask about?

That's odd. I've always been told to not be pregnant.

I thought it was odd too! My OB actually said it was pointless to get them non-pregnant. Now she just called the tests a "blood clotting panel" but she said they'd have to redo a lot when I'm pregnant again anyway. I wish I knew the specific names of the tests.

Hallos, have being on peeping mood, my history 1stillbirth ag 34weeks(placenta issues),after that have had four Mc all in first trimester(9weeks,5weeks,8weeks,5weeks.My country sucks, no place to check for genetic test,Nk cells and the likes, only had my thyroid checked which was ok.Im five weeks now and im on progesterone and baby aspirin, is it too late to add prednisolone.

Twineee-first off, I'm so sorry for your losses and I'm sorry you find yourself here on the RMC thread. As to your question, I'm not sure about the prednisolone being added now. Hopefully another lady on here can answer that.

You might have better luck asking that over on the Pregnancy after Recurrent Losses thread in the PAL forum. Here's the link-https://babyandbump.momtastic.com/pregnancy-after-loss/822106-pal-after-recurrent-losses-come-join-us.html. The ladies over there are pretty knowledgeable on stuff like that. This thread is also more for those who have experienced losses and are currently not pregnant so you may find the PARL thread a bit more upbeat in mood too.

My OH and I have had all our tests done and now waiting for an appointment with the consultant next week.

I have had 3 MMCs in a row and the reasons seem to be high DNA fragmentation in OH's sperm (44%) and slightly elevated NK killer cells for me.

Now I don't know whether we try naturally again or if with that level of fragmentation it's hopeless. OH gave up his medication that is likely to be causing the fragmentation but he is unlikely to last more than 3 months - whereas he also gave it up for 3 months before the first MMC and it made no difference. No idea if my NK killer cells are also contributing to the MMCs.

Waiting for next week now to get some more answers hopefully.

Elevated NK cells are linked to increased miscarriage though many doctors in the US don't think so. (Unlucky for me as I'm in the States and my doctors won't test for that issue and they won't prescribe me steroids without just cause so I can't even try the treatment despite me wanting to.)

FX you can get some answers from the doctor and you find a treatment plan that you feel comfortable with.

Here I am again. Baby had a good heartbeat at 6+3 and yesterday at 7+1 it hadn't grown and was 73bpm. Can't believe it's happening again. What do I do from here?
