Hi all,
I hope you don't mind me dropping in here, but tomorrow we have an appointment with our GP to set in motion a referral to see a fertility specialist. I have PCO and there is a chance that DH may have 'issues' caused by some of the meds he is on.

Anyway I was hoping that some of you may be able to give me an idea of what to expect when we have been referred. From your experiences did you have tests done on your first appointment, or will it be purely a chat to determine the future plan of action?

Also how long did you have to wait to get your first appointment once you had been referred by your GP? I know that this will differ from area to area, but just thought I would ask to try and get an idea of a possible timescale.

Thanks ladies.

x

The wait very much depends on where you are and the hospital, you should be seen within 6 weeks of the referral being made, but in some areas, the wait can be longer than 3 months.

Normally, FS like to see you when they have already the outcome of your blood tests (cd3 and cd21) and a SA as these are the first thing they will look at that will give him an indication of what to do next. These can be done via your GP. If you don't, it is likely the FS will book you for them and ask you to come back, which could then take some time to get a second appointment.

Good luck pinkflamingo, I am at a similar stage to you.

I got booked in for some bloods & swabs & my OH will be getting a SA appt.

I'm not sure what will happen after that yet.. xx

hello i had my first refferal appointment yesterday i was so scared but there is nothing to worry about, she sat myself and oh down and asked us health questions like:

1,what meds are you on.
2,do you drink/smoke
3,do you use drugs
4,diet like?

5,is there any long term health issues with family
6,had any serious operations
7,asked about periods and dates and how long

then we explained what was going to happen we had to do some blood tests for hiv,sti e.c.t

she gave me an internal scan for my psoc to measure then.she thwen went on to ask me if i had mucus each month ad i wasnt sure so she has told me to go for bloodtests on day 1-5 of period then day 22 then start taking 2 different tablets ethinylestradiol and provera to make me have mucus then after that she wants to do a post coital test the day after we have intercourse to see if we are conpatiable then we get all our results in aug to start the next step to check my tubes and things then if nothing found it will be put down as unexplained fertility and ivf is the answer iv been on clomid for 3 months and i havent been ouvlating and metformin for 6 months

hope this helps a little bit but we are all different but there is nothing to worry about honest good luck xxx

I'll be honest hun it took us ages to get an appointment after the GP appointment :(
They kept messing us around and we had to keep ringing up the hospital ourselves even after the refferal :growlmad:
Hopefully this was just our experience though?

I had bloods done for rubella immunisation and CD21 bloods as I was CD22 O:)
We had same questions as on the above post ^^

Good Luck sweetie! :flower:
