Hi all, I was wondering if someone could help. I've been searching the net but not getting clear answers.

Long story short my hubs and I have been trying for nearly 3 years with two m/c. My last m/c was march last year. DH has had 3 sperm analysts done in the 3 years. All three have been below average in all areas. The first two he did was while we was registered at our old doctors. They said nothing about his results other than yes they are low but seen as you've been able to get pregnant then keep trying.

We have just registered at a new surgery and DH has had a SA just this month and the doc has referred him straight away suggesting we need ivf/icsi. I was sooo happy he referred us but before I get too excited I want to know firstly whether they will accept us. The reason why I think this because at my old surgery they repeatedly said we will only refer you once its been passed 18months of your last m/c. As its only been a year since could the specialist say come back/keep trying or will they treat us regardless of that and base it on DH low sperm?? Please can someone help??

Hi, just wanted to say sorry for your losses and that usually IVF is a last resort after a yr or more of ttc and when other things have been tried. If you have been preg twice before personally i would try for another 6mths and see what happens as IVF is so emotionally draining. I would love the smallest chance of natural conception but sadly no chance as i have no tubes :( I think a lot of Docs are too fast to jump straight to IVF when there are a number of other options but if IVF is what you want then go for it and see what is said. Lots of luck xxx

Thanks Africaqueen. I would love to fall pregnant naturally again but as its taking so long we are both running out of patience. DH is low on all 3 factors of sperm, I'm surprised we actually managed to conceive before. It's not like it cant happen, I know its just going to take longer but as its been a year since last mc I just cant see it being anytime soon. So I'm ready for some help now.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? I wanna know if they will see to us based on DH's low sperm results alone, as in that would be enough to be eligible and them not turning us away because they may say it's only been a year since my mc.

Hi Ryvita, sorry for your losses. The problem I think you might face is that ICSI is not guaranteed to solve your problem as there may be an underlying problem causing you to miscarry. So you may get pregnant with icsi but you may also miscarry.

Have you considered looking into immune problems, it's very complicated and very overwhelming but you may just need some medication to help avoid future miscarriages. The fact that you can get pregnant is a really positive thing, I would also recommend a supplement for your husband from Australia called menevit it improved my OH's morphology massively so this may help. If you've got any questions re immune stuff as I have been diagnosed I'll try my best but I'm pretty new to it all myself xxxx

Hi Bugs, thanks for your reply. I do not know anything about immune/testing problems at all. To be honest I do wonder if there is an underlying problem as to why I miscarry but they don't do any investigating until you've had 3 consecutive miscarriages. Is there anyway I could find out then if I've got a problem before I conceive again??

The only way is private treatment which is expensive. I recently had the full works of immune testing which cost £2500 but it was worth it for us as it did show up a number of issues.
I'm not saying you should rush out and have these tests as you may just simply need a low dose asprin or something simple but what I'm saying is that ICSI might not solve your problem it could however show you what the embryo quality is like so there is a couple of options open to you xxxx

I guess I wont know what I need, if I need anything unless I get tested. Thanks, it certainly has given me something to think about. In regards to the Menevit, over how long a period did ur OH take them for before you saw a difference?

He started taking them about 3 months before and his morphology went from 40 something % to 90% so a huge improvement. Maybe ask your GP about trying asprin I know of a few people who've tried it after miscarriage and have been lucky so worth a go xxxx
