Hello ladies:flower:

Today I had an appointment with my doctor and she said the baby is engaged (i'm 37weeks today) and that she would check my cervix if I wanted and do a sweep to get things going. The thing is, according to my lmp my due date is oct 8 but according to scan it's oct 16 so I said no thanks to the sweep coz I'm in no hurry....what do you ladies think?

37 weeks does seem kind of early to be having a sweep, I think I might have waited a bit longer. I am 40 + 2 and my midwife won't do a sweep until I am 41 weeks.

It's your choice! Unless they have a good reason for doing so I don't see a reason to doing a sweep that early. I was only induced last time early due to medical reasons, I would wait to see when baby wants to appear! If you go over 40 it might be worth it x

yes i would agree..i had my sweep last time when i was 39 +5 & reasons they did it was to try to get me in & out of hospital b4 christmas, was a couple days b4 christmas..i didnt ask for one i didnt know any different they offered it & i went along with it..glad u made an informed choice..well done you! my 1st sweep didnt work but next one did & ended up in hospital over new year..was lovely watching all fireworks go off from my hospital bed cuddling baby...best new year ever...

I would say don't put yourself through it so early. I have had three sweeps this week, one at 39+1, 39+3 and 39+5, none have worked so baby is obviously not ready (even though i'm 3cm dilated). Each one got my hopes up and caused some contraction like pains etc but it was all for nothing.

Think they are more likely to work if you are overdue or if baby was ready.

Being induced now tomorrow.

I think you made the right choice, for me it seems too early to be intervening (unless there's a medical need of course.)

Hopefully your body will do what it needs to do by itself when it's ready :)

I agree, right choice. I'm 5 days past and they won't even check me because baby is so high.

I personally would have had it done, you are full term so even if it did start something off which is quite unlikely baby is fully baked and ready to come out. Ur lucky, I asked my midwife about sweeps the other day and don't give them at all!x

I would have refused at 37 weeks, too. I would wait until 40 weeks personally. There is no need to rush things.

Unless there is a medical reason, I didn't think they did sweeps until you over overdue:shrug:I was 6 days over when I had mine.
:flower:
xx

i think you were right :) well done, no need to rush things is there!!!xxx

i agree, why try to rush it!

Thanks ladies for your lovely interaction
I'm glad i stood my ground coz i'm usually a pushover :nope:
I don't know what she's in a hurry for...and besides I'm in enough pain as it is what with the baby pushing on my cervix and punching me all day and night :haha:

Hormonal - hope you have a smooth and uncomplicated delivery :hugs:

If you're happy and healthy in yourself, then you made the right choice.

I've been offered induction at 37 weeks due to my hips not being mobile to open very far and being in agony. But I'm going to get my cervix checked and if it's tightly shut I'll ask to be seen a week later.

I had sweeps with my last two at 40 weeks and both worked for me.

Plus, theres something exciting about going into labour naturally! I'd love to wake up to a gush of water in the bed, or out shopping!

I refused a sweep with my first baby, he came by himself 9 days overdue. I was 40 weeks when offered but being my first I was shy about it.

Now baby no 4 i'm so fed up i'd probably take them up on it! If your in no hurry baby will come sweep or no sweep.

No your in your right. I'm 39 weeks Tuesday and tomorrow I've got a consultant meeting about inducing me and I'm going to refuse a sweep and inducing. I had 3 with dd an nOne worked.
