To be honest the media and children's charities have taken this out of hand big time. Mainly due to the fact it's all legal and organised and there are medics on sight. Also it's just like any form of martial arts but isn't as 'harsh' as adults do for a profession and if people watch the whole video that is being publish and not just the front covers on the papers it shows they are only grabbing and getting them in a headlock which is the mission to win!
Also I love how people will say it'll make them have bad behaviour when it comes to later on in life and teenagers etc.. yes they'll be 'fighting' but as a PROFESSION and led by profession teachers/coaching! The adults and parents aren't 'FORCING' them to do anything. They'll see it as a future career!!!!!!
Would you want the children be on the streets and 'fighting' and getting ASBOs due to breaking windows etc?!
just because it's in a 'cage' people see it as an adult fighting!!!!
Yes I work within the childcare setting and I believe children should develop all their areas of development and when peanut arrives and he/she wants to do martial arts as a profession I'd encourage them.

'Egged on to enflicked violance!' - media quote! Ha
The media these days! They always make things OTT!!!

What do you think of the 'issue?'

Don't know much about it tbh but knowing he media they will have spun a totally different yarn.

If it's professionally organised then I don't see a problem. Research suggests people trained in martial arts are more disciplined in all areas of their life.

As a mother of an 8 year old boy, I think its disgusting, they should not know about cage fighting they should be out on scooters or bikes, digging in mud, going cubs, playing football etc. The argument that they would be out throwing stones just shows poor parenting in my book.

I'm sorry but the Adults that would want to pay to watch children fighting have something wrong with them.

I agree with you Cherry, it is disgusting!! These kids are too young, and they tend to carry these things to the outside...ie playground & at home. All of these things should be for 12+ I think

I agree, there are far more productive things and clubs they could benefit more from and to suggest they will be on the streets if they wern't fighting just shows poor parenting.

There parents are making them do this, instead of cubs, football, dance clubs etc. They are way too young to be having there heads filled with all of that!

AND there bodies are still developing.

Introduce the kids into something more productive, not cage fighting. In my opinion its barbaric (not trying to cause an argument, its my opinion) I wont even watch adults do it!

Hope no-one takes offence to this!

Who wants their child to have a future career as a cage fighter? The idea that if they're not doing this they'll be fighting on the streets is crazy.

Personally I'll be bringing up my children to know that fighting is a bad thing.

I don't care for adult cage fighting let alone childrens, it's so sad and i couldn't imagine watching my son fight in that sort of invironment it would break my heart.

I would rather get him into other clubs, football, dance, theatre, etc etc. Or he could just go out on his bike and play with friends.

Even if these fights are controlled and legal, it's just not for me but that's my opinion and fighting is not everyones cup of tea.

I suppose in a way it's just like entering them to a karate fight or teaching them to box/kick-fight/ kick box and then entering them into competitions?! Kids start those things from around the same sort of ages right?

Though personally I wouldn't like it for my child. Nor would I like them to box or kickfight etc.

These kids must have got the idea from somewhere- watching the (late night) adult stuff on TV?! But when a child gets an idea they are pretty hard to talk down especially at 8+years.
It is keeping them off the streets and sat in front of a computer screen, I'm sure that HUGE precautions are taken to ensure relative safety (as safe as any fight can be).

The media will probably have blown a lot of this out of proportion.and I suppose it's each parent and child to their own?

As long as the adults enforce that this is a HOBBY and not something they should do out of the ring/cage in this case then i think that it's all above board.

Not pretty but not causing any more issues than probably when kickboxing/wrestling for kids was introduced..
Hope I haven't upset anyone! Xx

Why are people paying to watch this???????????????? Xxxxx

I actually don't even like adult cage-fighting. It's just fighting, which could be done in a street or in a bar.
Personally, I think there is no harm in martial arts - karate, tai kwon do, jujitsu; these are all sports with skill and technique. Even boxing involves skill, although I wouldn't particularly want to sit and watch it. But cage fighting and wrestling are things I dislike as a general rule, because it's just having a fight as far as I'm concerned.

As for children cage fighting... I'm sorry I hate it. It puts me on edge, I don't understand why anyone would want to go and watch that and it also makes me worry that these kids will transfer it into everyday life. I have no idea, they might, they might not, but I think it's unhealthy and there's no way my child would be doing it.

I'm a bit confused....

I think competitive sports in general can be a good thing.....or sports such a tai kon do (sorry for terrible spelling)

What's the deal with cage fighting? What does it actually involve?

And do people pay to watch in the same way that I have to pay an entrance fee to watch my daughter in her gymnastics competitions?

What's the deal?

I dont agree with it at all. I dont care much for adult cage fighting anyway as it is just 2 men fighting!!! I love WWE but that is all staged etc so is a bit different but cage fighting to me is quite agressive and dangerous especially for children who havent developed 100% physically or mentally!!!

xx

I think the story has been blown out of proportion, however Ill try encourage my son to take part in different kind of activities. I dont see anything wrong in normal martial arts: no cages and media hype :)

Got to say I'm appalled by it. Things like karate, tai kwon doe are all about discipline. Cage fighting is about hurting each other with very few moves not allowed and no protective clothing. Even if there is a medic there I still don't see why 250 adults would want to pay to see it.
I would be happy with my child wanting to do karate etc but not mixed martial arts TBH, and particularly not if there's no protective clothing and they're in a cage. Maybe if a child wanted to do it at the age of 13/ 14 that would be different but it just seems like all the violence with none of the discipline and restraint other martial arts include.

ETA sorry if this offends anyone, I don't know much about it other than what I've read online but it's just my personal opinion.

Im not going to lie, I think its disgusting and any form of fighting for children shouldnt be allowed including karate and stuff. Why would you want your kid to go and hurt another kid

I did karate for a while as a kid and we didn't ever have contact fights x

Oh, then I wouldn't be opposed to that either then

I agree with both parts mainly the adults shouldn't be paying to watch it but they are doing it under a controlled enviroment ignoring the paying and drinking and not doing it out on the streets..

Like i said if my child wanted to do any form of 'trained' fighting I'd encourage them in my eyes it helps them develop their condifance mainly and stands up for themselves but in a professional and approching way.. e.g. later on in life and they are mugged they can us their self defence techniques that they are being tought and not to use a knife or weapon on the person whos attacking them!!

So besides the adults paying and drinking i think the whole thing has just gone OTT & i believe the children are being tought the best way to selfdefence also it's a hobby and something they enjoy doing yeah maybe it's not the Cubs/Scots etc but it's better then being on the street being rebels!

But theres plenty of other things they can do without hurting someone else?! I dunno why the dad said if he wasnt doing this he'd be out on the streets causing trouble.. really? at 8 years old? Great parenting.
Cage fighting doesnt even look like it'd be good in mugging situations, they just roll about the ground. If you want your child to know self defense then send them to self defense classes, not cage fighting :\

people weren't paying to see the kids fight, it was a day off professional cage fighters with an interval with kids wrestling in the middle of the day. In a overly padded cage, with medics and responsible adults there.
Its been majorly blown out of proportion. People wrap their kids in too much cotton wool these days, I did judo as a kid - and when I was a kid the judo club did a show for the local area, we're we fought each other showing the adults our newly learnt moves.
I see no difference.
