Has anyone got any info on or experience of remifentinol in labour?

Apparantly its a fairly new drug in terms of labour, similar to pethidine but with the side effects passing over quicker. My hospital offer tens, gas & air, diamorphine, remifentinol and epidural. I'm trying to decide if remifentinol is a drug I would consider or not. TBH, I think I'll consider all drugs unless they have serious side effects, but remifentinol appears to be good at reducing the epidural rate and I think that has to go in its favour in my decision making!

girl I worked with used it and she said it was fantastic as it gets into your system so quickly and leaves it as quickly again also you are in control

Hiya, I'm a nurse and work in ITU where we use remifentanil all the time alongside sedation to act as a pain killer. I've never heard of it being used in labour, but it certainly does act quickly and leave the body quickly too. x
