Hello Ladies,

I live in the UK and just wondered if some of you could share your monthly outgoings. We're gonna be looking at renting a house hopefully this year and I just wondered how much more the bills were that you pay so I can work out a budget. We're looking at houses around the £850 a month mark. I was trying to find out how much council tax is and how much more gas/electric is and water bills etc.

Any info will be appreciated :)

I don't have an answer but will be stalking this because I'm curious too! :)

Council tax will depend on the house, but if the house is worth £850 rent a month, I imagine the council tax would be at least £150. You can find out though - if you have the postcode of the house you're looking at at the house number, you can find out the tax band online.

We're in a fairly large three bed house and pay £80 a month for gas and electric (combined) but tend to be in credit all summer and stay within that credit through the winter, so we don't end up with arrears. We don't have a water metre as yet (thank god - my husband likes deep baths!) and we pay £23 a month for water.

Hope that helps x

We have a mortgage but bills are the same regardless :

Water - £50
council tax - £100
gas/elec - £80
Internet - £20
TV Licence - £10 - £20 (cant remember exact amount)

I cant think of anything else apart from food which we budget £250.

It really depends on your area for council tax and water.

Ah ok, that's not too bad then I suppose, not much more really.

Thank you :) xx

Yeah, It depends what luxuries you have :haha: We had Sky in our apartment and that was £80 a month (tv/phone/internet) where as now we just have free sat and we dont have a phone line as we never used it. x

We have a mortgage on a two bedroom flat and I know living in scotland makes the council tax different (water is included) but you will be able to look up online what tax band you fall into as the other ladies have said. Here's roughly what we pay.

Council tax: £125
Electricity (no gas): £50 a month but we are always a good chunk in credit
Internet: £20

Don't forget to include the little things like contents insurance. We only have basic contents insurance and pay about £5-10 a month but it covers us for thousands. Tv license we pay yearly (£145.50) but I think it's £12 a month but you pay double for the first 6.

We have a mortgage but this is what we pay;

Council Tax - £131
Gas & Electricity - £70
Water - £35
Phone and Internet - £25
TV License - £13
Home and Contents Insurance - £30
Life Insurance - £40

We don't pay standard rent, council tax and water in the military so will only mention the rest:

£50 electricity
£40 gas
£12 TV licence
£60 sky (including Internet and phone line)
£11 life insurance (just mine DH's comes out his wages)
£15 contents insurance

Ah excellent, this all really helps. Thank you ladies. We'll definitely be able to afford it after July. How exciting :) xxx

Our rent is £595 per month, we don't pay standard council tax because I'm a student.

Council tax - About £100
Water - £28
Electricity - £40-50 (we pay for the amount we use, not a set amount per month and we don't use the heating)
TV licence - £12
Landline & internet - £25

Then we pay £18 for a furniture loan and £50 for both our phones. We don't have gas so no bill for that!

our rent
625 PCM
council tax 133 per month
water ...unknown he pays that sure it's 20 something
tv licence : 12.24
gas and electricity : 70 PCM
sky, broadband , phone 73 quid PCM

that's basic household cost
