Its starting already :dohh: pregnancy insomnia due to restless legs. Has anyone ever dealt with it and what did you do to relieve it?

I just want a little sleep  Its not too much to ask for, is it?? lol!!

Oh so glad someone else has this too, I thought I was going mad! Couldn't sleep last night at all and this evening its just started. I'm off for a bath to try and relax but any other suggestions would be helpful!!! xx

I don't know about restless legs but I am struggling to get comfy at night which means less sleep for me :(

Might not work for you but works great for me; try having a cool bath, or wiping your legs down with damp flannel. Don't dry off and go straight to bed. This allowed me to get to sleep faster!
I've suffered with restless legs for many years although for some strange reason seem to have got a little better now i'm pregnant! HTH x

sorry to jump in but i used to get them terribly i got told lots of milk and a banana a day and its really worked on days when i dont drink milk my legs start

hth x

Eating marmite during the day (and also banana helps) helps it! Although
I hate to say mine carried on pretty much untill I fell pregnant again... The only waybi found to get rid was to straighten and flex my legs really quickly and it would stop the "thumper" leg!! Lol

I'm Soooo happy i found this thread! 4 years ago i thought i was going insane! In the third trimester with my son i hardly slept at all, and the only way i could discribe it was that my legs were "restless"..so i googled it and WOW i found loads of information on Restless Leg Syndrome. One of the best things i found was to have a dip in a cool bath, with a few drops of lavender oil (I hate the smell of lavender!) and hey presto it worked! I also got a pepermint leg/muscle rub from avon wich helped to. Im only 5 weeks at the moment but i have found it starting again....much worse than before! I cried myself to sleep the other night :( but feeling better now i have some leg rub :)
P.s 1 in 5 women will develop RLS during pregnancy and normally eases off after the birth :)

Thanks so much for the advice!!! Ill have to try a cold bath (or maybe shower, baths gross me out.. lol!) I was wondering what marmite was? Its so fun being on these boards with so many people from different countries!!! I sometimes have no idea what things are :dohh:

im having the restless leg thing too its crap lol.

I have had restless leg syndrom ever since I can remember.
It runs in my family, my grandma and dad have it too.

I never found a solution, I just am used to it and now I don't even notice it anymore.
Sometimes my leg is going up and down while I am sitting on the couch and I just feel relaxed, and my husband will be like "QUIT IT!" Then I think to myself "huh" "oh yeah"
:haha:

Sorry Im not a help, just sharing my experience.

I have this, not just in my legs but my entire body:cry: The only thing that kinda helps is a super hot bath, not great when pregnant tho!

Some things really set it off, the worst being antihistimines:wacko:
I did get meds for it amytriptiline, but all they do is knock me out, and make it worse if I don't go straight to bed! Will watch this thread for ideas:thumbup:

I have this too and I had it before pregnancy. I get it when I'm just about ready to pass out and sleep so I have to go straight to bed and sleep then it stops.

Its a horrible feeling which I find v hard to explain to others who have not had it. I have nt found any cure except sleep!

Cxxx

I find that flexing my feet back and forward helps a little, but it comes back after a few mins. Getting someone to rub your calf muscle can help and cooling your legs either with a cold cloth or a shower help before bed. I haven't found anything that stops it but the little things the others have suggested do help to relieve it. Hope these work for you and you get some sleep hun xx

hi lilprince me too! Sometimes you read a post and think whaaaat?? Lol. Marmite is yeast extract, I think they call it vegemite in australia!! The restless legs is horrible, I didn't have it in my other pregnancies and I thought it was a side effect of the anti-sickness tablets that I'm on! But obviously it's a pregnancy thing! lol.

Oh I am soooo glad I found this thread! I have this too, sometimes worse than others - I have amitriptyline for it but it doesn't seem to always work. I will now have, a banana for breakfast, marmite sandwich for lunch, a cool bath and a glass of milk before bed!

Thanks everyone!

Hope the tips help xx

So, my husband is a pro cyclist and often uses this stick thing to rub out his legs so I grabbed it last night. It worked pretty well! My leg felt good enough that I fell asleep without freaking out!!! :happydance:

The link to this strange thing is:

I dont know if will work all the time but I slept like a baby last night (in between getting up to pee 4x's...lol!) :dohh:

Ugh! Restless Leg Syndrome! The most toturing symptom I have had to deal with! I started getting restless legs around 7 weeks- literally I walked up and down my stairs from 10pm- 5am before I finally passed out. Research says in pregnancy, restless leg syndrome is connected with Iron defeincy, I started taking Iron everyday, and mine totally went away! My dr. says even if you are not iron defeicient, you can still benefit from taking it. Good Luck!!

Finally i know what i suffer from!
I've always wondered why at bed time it feels like i have something crawling over my legs!!
