I found out on Friday that I'm Rhesus Negative, I've never known my blood type before and no one's ever asked me so I'm pretty clueless about it. I was told I have to have an injection at 28 and 34 weeks to stop my body fighting my baby?

So I got home and decided to look into a bit and read that it's more of an issue in your 2nd+ pregnancies. Now the hospital know I've had a miscarriage, it's on the very first page of my notes so why isn't this more of a concern to them? My mum's friend is the same blood type and has had 3 miscarriages and is now on her way to a healthy baby but she was given the Anti D injection at the start of all her pregnancies. Should I push this more?

I tried to phone the midwife unit this morning about 6 times and could not get through for love nor money so I figured someone here might have an answer?

It depends when you had your miscarriage.. as anything before 12wks won't trigger the immune response - which is the issue with Anti-D.

You should get a Jab at either 28 & 34wks or just one at 28wks... then one after birth. It is more of an issue with second pregnancies as your body has already produced the anti bodies.... but this is why you should have jab after birth.

I'm also Rh neg, with my first i only needed a shot at 28wk and then after giving birth no big deal. With this pregnancy they did an antibody test at about 15 weeks and based on the results i had another shot, will also have another at 28 and then after the birth if the baby's blood type is positive. No big deal and no complications as a result of it yet

Ah thank you! All the information out there is pretty vague and like I said, I couldn't get through to anyone to ask specifically. I miscarried at 9 weeks, so that would be why they were pretty relaxed about it? Thanks again

You can also get your OH's blood tested. If he is also RH -, then you will have no problems, as the baby will be RH- too.

If you wanna try and get blood from him, be my guest lol. I'm sure it's on his records cause he's had blood poisoning before, will need to get him to phone the doctors and find out. It's weird how you never think about these things until they pose a problem.

Im Rhesus negative too. With my first i had a jab at 28 weeks, then they checked at my sons birth. Not sure which way but i either did or didnt have another injection. This time im due to have the jab at 28 weeks again.
Hope that helps x

I'm RH neg.. I had a shot after my first MC but didn't have one for my 2nd MC.. This is my 3rd pregnacy at 9 weeks I had dried blood and they gave me another one at the E.R
Doctor said I need another one at 28 weeks... To me its just confusing

I am RH negative, I was told if there was any bleeding I would need the shot right then and there, but so far it's still scheduled for 28 weeks and then after birth. My sister needed the shot around 8 weeks with her second because of a threatened miscarriage. xx

I am also Rh- I had the Rhogam shot at 28 weeks and I have no idea if they gave me another after my son was born or not ???

Im Rh- and so is my husband, so i didn't need the shot.

I have had the negative RH factor in each of my pregnancies, I miscarried at 5-6 weeks with my first little angel sadly March 2010

This pregnancy has gone very smoothly, and is progressing normally, I will have to have the shots aswell. I also had to have the shot after I lost baby #1.

Sorry I dont have more information, but my pregnancy is normal thus far , so it is not really anything to worry about. We just did the test to confirm that I am negative RH again and check for antibodies just to make sure. If there are antibodies I will get the shot sooner rather than later to help protect my little one <3

Best of luck to you and your baby! Try not to worry! If your pregnancy is progressing normally it is not always an issue.

Has your partner's blood type been tested? If he's also RH- then there's absolutely nothing to worry about. It's only a problem if the father is RH+ as it's more than likely the baby would be too. And as others have said, with the Anti-D injection there's nothing to worry about either. A jab around 28 weeks and another jab after the birth will have you sorted.

I know a couple where she is RH- and he's RH+ and they have 12 healthy children and as far as I know didn't have miscarriages (after 12 weeks anyway that people would have known about.)

Im rhesus negative too and worried when I found out, I think half the trouble is the midwife didnt explain it properly to me! After talking to people about it it would seem its more common than they make out, Ive had my first anti d jab and it was fine, next one in a few weeks time. Try not to worry x

i am also RH neg, i have had 6 misscarrages since having my daughter but they have all been early on so it really doesnt effect this preg at all and didnt need an injection. i however had a missed misscarrage in 2008 and i had to have an anti d injection with that one.

the anti d injectiond do really hurt. oh my got i would rather have the baby again lol. but then my pain threshold is really low lol.

this preg seems to be going well so i hope this helps. x x x

I found out today at my 12w+1 appointment that I'm Rh negative. Thankfully, my OB explained what that means and mentioned the Rhogam shot that's coming at 28w. She mentioned that the other one may be after I give birth, depending on how that goes. While I'm sad about more shots, I also don't want my body attacking this baby in me.

I found out I am too... as the others have said, Ive been told I need to to hospital straight away for a jab if I get any bleeding or a fall, i have a anti d jab scheduled for 28 weeks then will need one after the birth :)

Im only worried because Im a wuss about needles! xx

Same here, I will be getting it at 28 weeks. When I was 7 weeks I had some light brown spotting, I tried to see my doctor but the receptionist only gave me a referral from her to get an US done. When I went to see my doc at my 10 week appt she asked if they gave me the shot then, so I said no. She said oh you should have mentioned your blood type and they would have given you the shot, you were supposed to get it back then. I said, oh I had no idea, can I get it now. She said it's past now and not to worry, it won't affect anything (since it hasn't up to that point) but she said I will be getting it at 28 weeks.

How was I supposed to know I had to mention it? I thought it might be their job to ask that question if it was necessary. Or even for her to mark it on the paper or something. Or even when I called the info-health line, or even the 2 hospitals I called. But still hoping that it doesn't have a chance to affect me or the baby this far in. Going to talk with her again about it at my next appt. (2 weeks!)
