Megan is now 5 months old and doesnt roll over yet, doesnt seem very interested in doing it to be honest.

One of the mums at the babygroup seemed shocked that she wasnt doing it yet. She is reaching for things and grapping things. Tried holding a rattle to the side but she seems to be quite happy on her back. She isnt a fan of tummy time either so we are working on that, though i am not too concerned as she Holds her head really well.

That same mum said i should practice the rolling over with her- is this really necessary? Surely it doesnt matter too much that she isnt doing it yet?

I am of the view that all babies do things in their own time. So just out of interest- how old was your little one when they started rolling over.

Maria rolled tummy to back at 3 and a half months and back to tummy much later, about 6 and a half months but she has never been interested in doing it. She only does it in bed. Your baby might just not be interested in rolling.

James only just learned to roll tummy to back the other day after throwing a stronp that he couldn't reach a toy but still can't roll back to tummy. He is nearly there.
I think they they do it in their own time. We tried showing him what to do and he was like huh what you doing

My son was three months but my daughter was quite a bit later. My son is great on his tummy but my daughter didn't want to know about tummy time! She sat at 6 months, crawled at nine and a half anf walked at sixteen months. She was always a little late with her physical milestones but is well ahead with her language. I suspect my son will be the other way round. They really are all different. I am not sure there is much need to encourage her, I think she will do it when she is ready.

My dd rolled from back to tummy at 19 weeks, but she HATES being on her back with a passion so there was good motivation there. She can roll from back to front, but very rarely does it tbh.

I'm sure your lo will do it in her own time :flower:

lucas was rolling both ways at 4.5 months, but i know a lot of babies who don't roll! mostly because they dont want to haha

Jacob rolled front to back the other week, but doesn't have interest in the other way. He's never really liked being on his front so I think he just decided to started to rolling over to go back on his back.

My LO started at 17 weeks going from back to front, and soon after going the other way too. Don't worry about it, she was happier on her back and we got a bit more peace. Now she's so frustrated when she's on her tummy as she really desperately wants to crawl but can't, so we can't leave her playing anymore like before. Enjoy the peace while you can, they will all do it in their own time!

Myles was back to tummy at 3 months and tummy to back last week at 3.5 months

My LO rolled from tummy to back at 9 weeks and back to tummy at 16 weeks. All babies develop differently though and some babies just arent interested :)

My son rolls from back to tummy from 4 months but doesn't know to roll from tummy to back! he's now 5 months, 2 weeks

Callum didn't do it til he was just 6 months, it was in the new year and he rolled from his back to his front first and then the very next day he did it from his front to his back. They all develop at different times hun, she'll get there xx

My DS is 5 months this week and he doesn't roll and doesn't even seem to want to, he is a chunky monkey so think it'll be a while before he can!!!! He'll do it when/if he wants to my 2 older DS weren't really 'rollers'. Don't feel pressured by others babies do things when they're ready if they want to!! X

Sebastian has never really been fussed with rolling. He's done tummy to back a few times at 6 months, but still can't get off his back now at nearly 10 months even though he ie crawling and climbing lol. I guess he never really saw the point :)

Abby rolled once at 4 months. She never did it again!

The mum at the baby group shouldn't be shocked. Babies develop at different rates and some never roll.

In fact, I'm quite annoyed that she even made a suggestion of practicing. Who the hell is she to advise you? Tell her to wind her neck in, nosy cow!

My eldest rolled back to tummy at 6 weeks but only tummy to back at about 5.5 months. My youngest did back to tummy after 5 months but has never bothered much with tummy to back though she can do it.

I'm glad you asked this question because I was just going to post a thread asking :)
Owen rolled from back to tummy at about 3.5 months. He is 7 months this week and still hasn't rolled from tummy to back and I was getting worried. It's hard not to compare babies to each other.

I think it's best just not to wrry about anything they do really. When was the last time you came across a 2 year old that couldn't roll over? They all do it eventually, and stressing about it won't make it happen any quicker and will take away some enjoyment of spending time with your child. Just let them do things as they want to. Just because they DON'T do it yet, doesn't mean they CAN'T - the might just not want to :)
