Hello everyone

My baby is 2 months old so I'm not too worried now but just curious when you started a routine and what was your routine for your child?
My midwife said not to worry till they are 6 months but worried I might leave it to late.

I do try and have a little routine now but it will only last a few days then it changes completely because she changes her feed/nap times which is understandable as she only young

Just wanted other mums opinions :)

DS didn't have a real routine till probably just after six months mostly because we started weaning and needed to be somewhere suitable to feed him at times when he needed to eat. Bottles were so much easier.

Around 4.5 months he started to nap for longer twice a day rather than catnap and he started being more consistent with when he got up and always had his bottles st the same times. It meant we got better at knowing when he needed to sleep etc. Even then though he didn't have any evening routine and would go down anywhere between 7 and 11 and stay in living room with us till we went to bed.
He didn't have any sort of routine at all at two months he would have his feeds at different times and was pretty much still in the sleep, wake to feed maybe stay awake an hour before sleeping again phase.

My LO is 17 months and didn't have much of a routine until she was around 1. Even now, it's pretty flexible - she's fine.

I am the opposite lol!! I started a little routine with my 2 month old a few weeks ago for bedtime to match my toddlers, bath time 6pm then swaddled and bed (Moses basket around 6.30/7) she normally will fall asleep within 30 mins and has been great at following this so far with only 2 nights where she just didn't want to sleep so she came down stairs with me. With my toddler I held him to sleep every night so this time I am trying to make it that she falls asleep on her own in her basket but it's whatever suits my babies is what I will go with in the end. During the day she routinely sleeps at 9-9.30am but the rest of the day is a bit random, she demand feeds so whenever she feels like it lol!

We've had a bedtime routine from 11 weeks and it's worked out pretty well for us. We give him his bath around 7pm, feed at 7.30, then bed at 8pm. The plan is to slowly make it earlier until he's eventually in bed by 7pm.

I wouldn't say we have a particular routine during the day, but I'm happy with that since he settles so well at night.

We never had a strict routine. When she was hungry she ate, when she was tired, she slept. The only thing we tended to be more strict about up til about 2 was her bedtime, give or take half an hour or so. We don't keep her up til 10 and put her to bed at 7 other nights. We've tended to aim for roughly the same half hour window, though when that is has changed over time as she's gotten older. But no, we never had a set routine as in things has to be done at this time every day. I just listened to what she needed. But things did start to have more of a pattern to them by about 3-4 months. I could much more easily guess she would likely be hungry at around this time, give or take a bit, or be tired around this time, give or take a bit, and we just settled into that and changed as she needed to. I think sometimes the frustration with having a routine is that is changes pretty much monthly, so if you get too stuck on doing it a certain way and at certain times, it can work against you if you aren't flexible enough.
