Will try to keep this short, been trying for 1 year, had internal scan and blood tests all normal on myself. DH had two SA tests completed in last three months. Went to doctor today who looked at results and said she was not quite sure but think they looked ok. She decided to refer me to Gynae re fallopian tubes check. Then when I looked at resuls written at the bottem was 'refer to regoinal fertility clinic'. I contact andrology dept who completed tests and although she would not say much she said to get back onto doc to request referral as it was a waste of time going to other clinics. Totally confused, got back onto GP by phone who agreed to make referral. The two samples are hard to read and quite different, they are 'washed' samples. The most recent had;
50%motility (previous 5%)
99% abnormal forms
200000 undiluted semen and 100000 total active (previous had 6million undiluted and 5000000 active)
Any thoughts greatly appreciated. We are very frustrated

Hi swanky,
You poor thing, it can be so frustrating trying to get the diagnosis you need.
Your doctor sounds like a complete idiot too!

There seem to be two issues with your SA. The threshold for "normal" morphology (this is the abnormal forms one) is 85%. If you're at 99% this is without a doubt causing you problems.
The other one is your count. The threshold for normal here is 20 million. If you guys have 200,000 again you're well under. Unless maybe you left a 0 off??

I'm sorry I don't have a better opinion for you honey. My DH and I have been through all of this because of the problems with him.

The goods news that is that SA results can change and there are definitely things you can do to improve the outcome. Get him on some zinc and a good multivitamin for starters. I saw that your motility has improved from 5% to 50% in the last test and that is awesome - definitely proof that things can get better. (50% is the threshold for normal motility by the way..)

I wish you all the best. xxx

I wish I could give you more answers, but I agree with the PP- the cutoff for low count here in the US is 20mil/mL BUT that includes the dead sperm, etc etc. That's not a washed count. Maybe you could do some searching online to find out about what a normal washed count is. I have heard women that have IUIs, they want 10mil TOTAL [not per mL] as a washed count.

1% normal forms is not good. I was told the morphology should be above 35%. Try adding some zinc and amino acids [l-arginine, l-carnitine, l-tyrosine] to his vitamin regimen.:hugs::hugs: I wish I knew what to say. When I got the bad SA results, it was like a kick to the face. Definitely have him looked at by a urologist too.
