If you're pregnant and think you have sciatica, please mention sacroiliitis to your doctor. Sacroiliitis is an inflammation of the S.I. joint that connects your lower back to your hip and is often mistaken for sciatica because the sciatic nerve runs right past a muscle that supports that SI joint. Before I was pregnant I thought I had sciatica. It developed a couple months after having a knee surgery but happens a lot in pregnant women due to their muscles and ligaments relaxing.
I went through a course of physical therapy which didn't help in my case. I had an MRI and a CT scan just to diagnose the problem. The only cure, for me, was a cortisone injection. Since the needle has a long way to travel, it needs to be guided while using a live x-ray. It is not suggested for pregnant women. However there are special belts made to support and stabilize the joint and exercises one can try to support the joint.
With sacroiliitis it is very painful to walk or bend forward at the hip. Laying on your back will cause a pain which you will feel in your lower back, buttock and hip. Often you will notice the pain when you turn over in bed.
I spent a lot of time and money trying to get this problem diagnosed and cured. Please check out this link for more information. https://www.medicinenet.com/sacroiliac_joint_pain/article.htm
