Hi ladies...

We brought our carseat the primmo viaggo ip, one problem it doesn't fit our car :'(
The seatbelt is to short....

I've heard about seatbelt extenders but have been told and read online that they are not safe and will break in accident, are any of you using a seatbelt extender?
Are they safe or not?

Also to add our car doesn't have isofix, so its either the extender or get the surefix base from M & P, but this base uses the seatbelt would the belt be ok for this as it says it frees you of up to 8 inches of belt

Thankyou in advance :)

Xxx

We have the primo viaggio and use a seatbelt extender with no problems - it's one like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350mm-Se...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item255b6b7d65

I can't see how it would break in an accident because the car seat is wedged between the back of the seat and the front seat when it's in place and fastened!

I *think* they are ok to use so long as they don't cause buckle crunch xx

Also if I put the seat in someone elses car and the belts are too short I find hooking it round the back before buckling it in usually works - if that makes sense. Usually you feed it through the guides at the front over baby's lap and then buckle it in then feed the belt round the back.

Thankyou :)
I was told it can create a week point in the seatbelt... So I wasn't to sure :(

If I was to buy the surefix base, is it safe to buy the base second hand?
Xx

I think it's ok if you know it hasn't been in an accident. There are plenty of them available on ebay xx

On ours, where the belt attaches to the extender, it sits right under the handle when in it's forward position and makes a tight fit. The belt on the extender is a bit loose but it doesn't affect how tight the seat fits.

We had the same problem with our Maxi Cosi Pebble and ended up getting the non-ISOfix base for it as were told the extenders wouldn't be as safe. Make sure to shop around though as we considered second hand from Ebay, but ended up getting about the same price for new on an Amazon sale.

are second hand bases ok to use ? wasnt sure if it was the base or the seat that has to be brand new .

I think ideally both are supposed to be new, but I guess if you can be fairly sure it hasn't been in an accident, it would be okay? The ones we considered had not been used much and came with instructions and proof of recent purchase etc.

We had the same problem with our maxi cosi in our ford focus. We considered seatbelt extenders but decided we weren't comfortable with the safety of it.

As we didn't have isofix, we got the non-isofix base and didn't need any extenders as it doesn't need anywhere near as much length. I was really pleased we did this anyway as it has indicators on it that show you the seat is fitted correctly and it's easier to put the car seat in/take it out.
