What are the chances il end up with an arsey customer? I'm really nervous doing it but really need the money, but I constantly read stories about people selling phones, game consoles etc. and the buyer claiming its broken and claiming their money back without returning the item. Would It be safer selling it elsewhere? I'd take the risk if I wasn't selling my stuff for a deposit to move house :( £100+ would be alot of money to loose if I got the wrong customer.

wouldn't it be better to sell it envirofone? I've sold loads of phones to them with no problem. I wouldn't recommend o2 recycle they'll say your phone has cosmetic damage even if it doesn't and they take ages to make a payout.

I think you'll be fine... I wouldnt refund till I got the item back. Also eBay and PayPal protect you to a certain extent, check buyers feedback before sending. Ive never had problems selling phones etc.

Although saying that, have you got a local facebook selling site? Saves fee's and you get cash upfront

Good luck

I sold mine on my local Facebook selling page, cash only and much less hassle (if you exclude the chancres offering £100 for a £300 phone!)

If you do take the ebay route, take lots of pictures showing the phone working, extras and any marks. Also the serial number for your reference.

Ensure your bidder preferences are as high as possible, UK only and send tracked.

Whilst it does happen, only a very small minority of buyers are fraudulent.

Ah I don't have Facebook unfortunately :( I might pop to granger games and see how much they'd give me for it as apparently their the best for for prices when buying your phones or game consoles. My friend works for O2 and she told me not to do the O2 recycling lol if granger games can't offer me a decent price I may try gum tree before I go through ebay :) thank you for your replies

If you do decide to sell it on ebay, take pictures of it switched on to show it's working. Also take pictures of the serial number and also get a picture of it ready to be sent next to all the packaging. A bit thorough but it will stop people claiming a) that you've sent them a broken phone b) returning a phone that's broken or a dummy phone or c) claiming you sent an empty package.

Also send tracked and set your buyer preferences up as a PP has said.

Use gumtree. An iphone would be gone within 24 hours on gumtree where I live!

eBay would never refund a buyer without them returning the item and you examining it- I had this problem last week with a 3DS.

Lots of pics and note down the serial number (in case they return a broken phone)

Ebay aren't as evil as they used to be.

My oh sold his to carphone warehouse recyle for £200 last week, they payed the money into his account there and then x

ebay won't, but paypal will! I'm on another forum and a lot of ladies there collect and sell luxury handbags, on numerous occasions I've seen paypal refund the buyer or freezing funds because they claimed it was fake or damaged :nope:

OP definitely take lots of pictures of the phone working and from all sides etc to show it's in good shape so the buyer can't claim that it's not as described. I'd also make sure to use tracking so they can't say they never received it

I would try gumtree, phone recycle companies or local shops to put an ad in before ebay

Aside from anything else the selling fees plus paypal fees on an expensive item will be quite high, you don't get any of that selling privately

Money Saving Expert has a phone recycling comparison tool too, so you can see at a glance who will give you the most for your phone. You can find it here:

Ah yes I went on there yesterday but when doing research into the company's who offer the most it was rated 1 star and alot of people saying they send their phones and get no money giving to them or they send their phones and they get told their only getting half the money for the phone and claim its broken or damaged so I'm going to try gumtree :)

Thank you for all your replies
