sex to induce labour

What is it about sex that works well for many? Is it the actual act itself or us it just the hormones in the semen?

Feeling quite jealous of labouring neighbour now and, seeing as I can't get back to sleep, thought would plan my day for tomorrow and have a day of trying varying things lol. Obviously knowing an answer to the above question I know how often to kidnap the hubby!

According to my prenatal instructor, the semen helps to soften the cervix.

It's a mixture of things, it's the hormones in the semen, the hormones you release and the contractions of your womb when u orgasim.

So far it hasn't worked for me

Yes hasn't done much for me either lol! I think babies really do just come when they want. Are you having a boy or a girl? I'm sure boys are more lazy lol x

I think the sperm softens the cervix and orgasms can start contractions if your body is ready but it hasn't worked for me now 1 day over due.

I have always had loads of contractions after sex but never gone into labour. I think it can work but only if you are pretty much about to go into labour anyway!

Yeah i have tried this and so far it hasnt worked for me altho i do feel i'm losing more and more of my plug, so u never know.

I saw my mw on wed and she recommended sex as a way of kick starting lanour. interestingly she also suggested using your hand or breast pump to stimulate milk/colostrum production as another method of bringing on labour.

I gave this a go with my breast pump too and gotta say, i felt my abdomen contracting when i stimulated the breast so there may b something in this.

So hoping to go over the weekend, just b4 my dd so we'll c if anything actually works xxx

And I am having another boy..they definitely are lazier I think my eldest son was 10 days over

I don't have a breast pump but could do it manually I suppose lol. Because I'm in a latent stage I thought maybe something could work to speed things up!

I really dont understand how this works, surely you're either ready or not.
Luckily our sex life hasnt changed much (in frequency I mean) so why wouldnt I be going into labour before now??
I dont know really. Maybe if you've not had sex for a while it makes a difference.

But anything is worth a try right Did read a thread where someones OH was convinced it only worked if she swallowed!!

I read the same thing on another site actually...something to do with the prostaglandins (however its spelt lol) being more easily absobed through the gut rather than anywhere else. I don't think ill pass that nugget of info on to oh though

Think I'm just going to clean the house all day actually. Planned nesting, seeing as I haven't had the urge. So tired after being awake since 3am and its put me in a bit of a bad mood anyway lol
