Hello ladies,

Today I had my first RE appointment :happydance:
After two years of ttc baby #2 with 2 miscarriages, I am so ready to get some answers!

So far I love my doctor! I am on cd 5 so he wanted to wait til I start a new cycle to start my testing. One procedure of course I will be having does is a HSG.

For any of the ladies that has had this done before you mind sharing your experience with me. I have a pretty high pain tolerance so Im sure Ill be fine, just want to hear what others have experienced.

At our first appointmenty Fertility Specialist suggested I get a HSG. I don't drive and I live an hour and a half away from my Fertility Specialist and pathologist that does the HSG, so my Fertility Specialist got me in that same afternoon. It was good as I didn't get a chance to Google about the HSG, but I was really nervous.

On the way to the Pathologist I took a couple of Nurofen painkillers. It was a bit awkward when the catheter was put in, kind of like a pap smear. I had strong cramps when the dye was push through my left tube as it wasn't as open as the right one was. One they stopped pushing the dye through the pain stopped. I was probably on the table for about 15mins.
I had slight cramping and spotting for the next day, then all good. I was on CD6 when I had my HSG.

Thanks for sharing! Im assuming my doctor wanted to wait on a fresh cycle to start all my testing. Thankfully my fertility specialist is down the street from me so less than 10 minutes away. Thats a good idea to take something before the procedure so I will definitely try that.

I didn't find that I needed any pain relief beforehand or afterwards. I was scared leading up to it because or horror stories that I had read online but honestly it was over with within a few minutes and such a simple procedure. xx

I would recommend taking some painkillers before hand, mine was incredibly painful and was cut short. I've since had a hysteroscopy which showed I had a blocked tube which explained why it was so painful on that side.

First off...I think I'm a whimp lol I had mine done on cd 8 I believe. I did find it pretty crampy, I had had a foam test done a few months before (similar to dye but less painful apparently) so fast forward the foam test must have missed a polyp I had because during an internal U/S for IUI tracking It was discovered. Then they wanted to use the dye test (I guess it shows more) they did this just to check my uterus & didn't put it through my tubes because they already checked and they were nice and open. Anyway like I said I think I'm a baby when it comes to this stuff but take something a few minutes before just in case you get some cramping :) good luck!

Mine was done on CD 10 , the doctor performing the HSG was very gentle and went very slow with releasing the dye there was some serious cramping but then both tubes showed spillage and I got up and got dressed. You'll want to wear a pad afterwards because this syrup like stuff will leak out for about a day after.

I just had this done on Friday. It's really hard to say what to expect because all women are different. I can tell you it hurt to the point it took my breathe away and I said some not-so-nice-words aloud. But...it's over quickly.

Definitely take some Ibuprofen before you go.

Good luck!

I just had them done Friday too. I had the office one which is just with normal saline and air, that one was inconclusive because they use US instead of fluoroscopy. I was able to get in to do the radiological HSG and there was some cramping but nothing I needed Meds for. The worst part for me is the speculum, I really really hate that thing. Otherwise just wear a pad afterward and I did spot the day after as well as the day of. Also some cramping after the test but again nothing that needed Meds. Good luck!
