My LO is 12 days old, she normally feeds 2-3oz's every 2-4 hours, her last feed was around 7.30-ish and she hasn't woken for her next feed.

Should I wake her to feed her? I've been told you should't let them go more than 4 hours without waking for a feed? But don't want to wake her if she's happy asleep and then not get her to settle afterwards?

:flower:

My policy was to let her sleep if she was sleeping.

being as young as she is..she is probs still recovering from birth like yourself,so id let her sleep.she will soon make up for lost feeds in the coming weeks lol!!
congrats by the way hun..she is beautiful
xx

I was told by special care NOT to let the newborns go longer than 4 hours without feeds even if it meant waking. after a month its ok but not at first as they can still be sleepie and dont realise they need food

As soon as my (full term) LO had proved he was gaining weight well, they said I could just let them sleep! In the first few days, I was advised if he went over 5 hours to try to gently wake him by changing his nappy first , and to be fair that usually worked. But I'd say if the HV is happy with her weight gain, let her sleep :)

When I was in hospital I used to wake Jake every 4 hours to feed, just by changing his nappy etc. :)
Then when he got out of the 'newborn' phase I would just let him sleep, especially if they're putting on weight okay.
& yes they really do make up for it when they get older!!
xxx

I always used to let my boy sleep! He's a year old now and he made it just fine lol

when i was in the hosp they told me to wake him every 2 hours (he was 3 wks prem) by changing his nappy but now he's 4 wks old I just leave him to it. He'll wake up when he's hungry

My LO feeds at about 8pm and will go through until about 1.30am. He has done this quite a few times. I am happy to leave him although I prefer not to let him go more than 6 - 7 hours. He tends to stir by then anyway so I prep a bottle, come back up and he is asleep again but I take him out and change him. I prefer to sort him when he is stirring and building up for a feed rather than when he is wide awake and starving and tends to scream!

Some people say you should never let them go a certain amount of time without a feed, and in the hospital they told me never longer than 3 hours, but what about when your LO starts to sleep through? If they're hungry enough, they will wake for a feed, if they don't you should assume that they're still digesting the last lot, or they're comfortable enough not to want a feed just yet. Sometimes when my LO sleeps through (sometimes about 12 hours), she wakes and refuses a bottle for about 2 hours after getting up,because I guess her belly hasn't really woken up yet. It takes me a while to start getting hungry, so I assume she's the same.

if shes gaining weight i would leave her i never woke my lo and he feed fine during the day and started sleeping through at night x

i would personally let them sleep..x

I personally would never wake a sleeping baby. At that age I personally think as long as u dont let them go longer than 6 hrs and then after that if she still sleeps stir her by taking off her blanket and stroking her face etc so she wakes up gradually and calmy.

I woke Eva up once and god did i pay for it! lol!!!
