Should I wake him up to break the waking habit? Anyone tried this?

I'm thinking about trying this new technique - waking him up about half an hour before he normally wakes, for a couple of mins, and then putting him back down and seeing if that breaks his habit.
Basically, he goes down absolutely fine, then anywhere between 11pm and 1am he normally ends up in with us as he just cannot be settled again. This is after he's normally woken about 10ish, but can go back down again.
I heard about this technique off a friend of a friend, so wondered if anyone has tried this, or what thoughts are whether it'll work?

Anyone?! I know we're all watching one born every minute but anyone got any advice?

I've heard it can work if they're waking up at the same time each night out of habit. Sorry, haven't really got any advice. Hope it works for you!

Completely different ages, but it works with Thomas when he's napping. If I go in and touch him just enough to get his eyes to flutter a bit, he'll sleep through for another cycle.

The bad part is that 50% of the time it actually wakes him right up!
