Hiya just a a quick query really for anyone in the know if possible. I work for East Sussex County Council and am currently off sick. I am most likely being signed off until half term when I take maternity leave, so all in all 2 months.

I have googled and cannot find the policy online but was wondering if anyone knew what my pay entitlement will be for 2 months. Will I get full pay/half pay or SSP? If it is less than full pay then I will be going back to work, no option I am afraid!

I have been employed exactly 1 year and 1 day on the first day of my sickness and had 2 days off last year!

I will ring them if I don't get the answers but they are a total pain to get hold of.

Thanks :)

it really depends on the company you work for hun. i had alot of time off sick, i get 8wks full pay per year. do you have a copy of your contract at home, it should state in there. i would of thought you'd get a certain amount on full pay as most (not all) have a cut off thing that you need to of worked for them for a year, i know my place does.
i know it doesnt help that much but you definitely best to give your HR dept a call.

It all depends on your contract I'm afraid so we can't really help. Where I work, you just get SSP after the three waiting days are finished.

Thanks, knew it was a long shot!! Just thought some fellow council workers might know :)

I didn't get any pay deducted for the 2 days off I had last year. I have heard it is full pay for a certain time once you have done a year though.

Don't have my contract here either :dohh:

Finally got through!! I get full pay until 16th November (not sure where that date comes from) But get sweitched to mat leave on the 24th October (a week before I planned to take it!)

Just wondering if I can get an end date on my sick note and sign myself back on work for half term then wonder if my mat leave would start on the 1st Nov like I planned. Then I think its not worth the agro for a week :)

probably not worth the hassle - i think they're allowed to start your maternity early if you're off sick? good news that you get full pay though, that's a relief for you! x

Thanks, yeah 4 weeks before which is 24th Oct :) But was thinking of seeing if I can do a snyde one, get the sicknote to end 22nd Oct (end of term) then I am effectively fit for work from 23rd October but don't need to go to work cos it is half term. Then my maternity leave starts on the first day back.

Being off sick makes me think too much :(

The company you work for are entitled to start your maternity leave within four weeks of your due date if you are off sick during that four weeks with a pregnancy related issue.
Personally, for the hassle it would cause, I would just go with the one week early thing they've devised.

Thats what I'm thinking. It is only a week and just means I go on to SMP a week earlier next year x x
