Wondering if LO will ever sit up. I know they say by 6 months they should be doing it but I wonder if she's going to sit before crawling...because she's always throwing herself backwards when she's in a sitting position. I'm afraid to leave her on her own sitting because she does this. She likes to STAND and JUMP lol She would stand on us or in her jumperoo and jump for days if we let her...and she should have the strength for sitting...but she's not doing it yet. She just figured out last night that she can roll from front to back (she started rolling this way but once she learned she could roll from back to front she forgot how to do it the other way). What do you do about LOs that like the throw themselves backwards in regards to sitting?

Hiya yeah dont worry sounds pretty normal to me they sit unaided betwwen 6 and 9 months. My lo used to throw herself back too!

both mine didn't start sitting on their own (without throwing themselves back) until they could crawl. Once they started crawling they learnt that they could reverse back into a sitting position. Madeleine was eight months old, and Mojo was 11 months (he commando crawled at 8 months, but you can't reverse into sitting that way. He didn't properly crawl til he was 11 months).

My lb still refuses to roll. He just hates being on his belly so i wouldnt worry

I wouldn't worry about it :) Thomas can't roll, loves to stand and when he's in his bouncer he tries to sit up. He's nowhere near being able to sit though

Mine has rolled once but that's it. She throws herself back as well so what I do is I sit with her on the floor between my legs facing away from me so if she does throw herself back she falls on me.

Braven it will come, shes only still 4 months, it takes alot of strength to sit unaided, the head is the heaviest part of the body and its very much a balancing act to begin with. My 1st was able to sit unaided at 5.5 months but my 2nd who is a few days older than your LO isnt able to sit unaided yet either.

xx

Have you tried propping her in a tripod position? I tried this with Lulu just for fun around that age and she caught on quickly. Basically I just let her put the weight on her hands with her legs spread. Something they told us at Little Gym we could do that's harmless and helps a smidge with core strength. I have no idea if that helped with her sitting but it was a new position and was something else in my arsenal to keep her occupied.

Don't worry. My LO is 8.5 months and still can't sit up unaided for more than a few seconds. She throws herself backwards. I was told yesterday to place lots of pillows behind her (and to the sides) and to let her fall backwards if she wants to (I would always sit with her to catch her) but apparently catching them stops them learning and stops them building up the muscles they need to be able to sit. Not sure if this is true or not tho! I did let my LO fall back onto the cushions today and she looked a little shocked! X

My LO still doesn't sit up for more than a few seconds unaided without throwing herself backwards. I just went to the doctor on Friday and she said LO is completely normal! :)

I have found that she sits a lot better on a hard flat surface. I usually sit behind her and recently I have taken her plastic baby bath tub and put it on the floor (no water in it) with some toys. She loves playing in it and it has a back and sides so she has some support and can hold on to the sides but its not holding her in it like a seat so she still has to work her core iykwim?

Don't worry about steps and milestones so much (unless they are REALLY behind or something is really bothering you). I have talked to LOTS of mothers about when their LO's sat, crawled, walked, said first word, etc and ALL of them were pretty much the same by three or four even though some did things way earlier or way later.

Your LO is fine and will be fine. :)

What you could try is a nursing pillow behind LO when you are unable to be there. Your lo is still quite young and will eventually get the hang of it :)

Haha I tried this evening...she did it for a bit then face planted on the carpet :dohh:

Right!? And she will! Just keep doing it! LO finally giggles when she falls over. I say "uh-oh" and then giggle ridiculously so she gets that it's okay to tumble. Your LO will be sitting in no time and then you'll be on to some other worry. I've moved on to Lulu holding a sippy cup. Like she's anywhere near ready. I need a hobby besides developmental milestones.

lol I was just curious...not rushing her into anything...other than everytime she does something with more independence she's just so much more fun. I love her anyways lol

I used to put the boppy pillow behind her when she used to do that a lot. She would get excited, kick her legs, and wind up pushing herself over backwards. Now she has more balance and can kick her feet and not fall backwards but I still put a pillow in back of her just in case.

Lola darted sitting unaided at 5months but still when she gets tired throws herself back after so long so we do what we did when she was learning, surround her with pillows and let her fall, she doesn't hurt herself and we don't have a heart attack at every wobble lol xx

Thomas sat unaided way after he learnt to crawl. He was 7.5 months before he could sit by himself.
