My DD is three weeks old, and up until 2 days ago was a really easy baby who slept really well. The last two days she has hardly slept, the longest stretch has been an hour. In between her cat naps she is crying and fussy and its really hard to settle her. I am cloth diapering, and i know i should change her as soon as she wets/soils herself, but she keeps peeing/pooping immediately before falling asleep. I don't want to change her because it will wake her up and she is absolutely exhausted and it'll take several hours to get her to sleep again, but i also don't want her sitting in her own filth and getting a rash. She is sleeping on me right now and i can feel her diaper leaking, what do I do??? She has huge bags under her eyes, my husband thinks I should leave the diaper and let her sleep, help!

I only change poop diapers at night, but if it is leaking definitely change it. You need to put on a diaper with enough absorbency to get through the night, around this age you might need to be adding a booster if leaking is happening a lot.

Thanks for the reply! She is just napping right now (I'm in Canada so its not night time yet!) with a leaky diaper, i know she has poop in it too because i heard her do it just as she was falling asleep. Do you think its ok to leave her in a wet poopy diaper for an hour or two so she can get some much needed sleep, or should I wake her up to change it? Sorry if this is a silly question, I am a first time mom!

Never mind, she just woke up screaming so I changed her. Now to try and get her back to sleep! Its nearly 7 pm and the poor bubs has only slept for a total of 3 hours since 9 am. She sleeps well as soon as we go out for a walk, but its freezing and snowing here so we can only walk for so long before we both freeze!

Always change poop, it can cause rashes faster than you think. Pretty soon your LO won't poop all the time and after every feed. The cat naps may be due to a growth spurt? I hope you can get it settled quickly!

I was thinking that she might be having a growth spurt because she is also wanting to feed a lot. I hope this ends quickly and she goes back to her easy going self!

Are they a bit too big for her if they leak so quickly? I use cloth and have ever had a leak and he has worn them for as much as 5 hours solid when I have changed him after a feed then he has gone 4 hr to the next feed and changed his nappy after that feed. He pees loads too. He never poops in the nappy thou, only ever pooped inside twice since birth, first was his very first poo and second was at about 3 weeks old when he pooped within seconds of me fastening up the clean one. He will wait until I change him and have his nappy open to try and poo so never have to worry about that only pee inside the nappy. I just give him a good 5 mins nappy free at each change to give him chance to go if he needs to now.

I have 3 of the extra absorbant cloths too but not started using them yet as he already looks like a telly tubby with his tummy looking huge with the normal cloth in lol!
